Featured Friday Morning Shuffle - Biloxi, Straitsville, Tuscany, and Vegas Mix

All of this happened a long time ago when the world was a very different place. Of course, none of us knew that at the time.

Among the albums being released today:  E2TG favorites Kevin Gordon and The Foresters each have excellent new album which are now out in the universe.  Kevin Gordon just released Tilt and Shine and The Foresters just released "The Barometric Pressure is On Our Side.  The artists and the music could not be more different - well, I guess they could technically be more different but you know what I mean - but to me they both represent artists who are at the top of their game and still climbing.

On a related note, I know this may sound judgmental, but I find it hard to take anyone seriously who says something to the effect that they don't make good music any more. I am hearing so much great music every day. It may not be on Top 40 radio but it is out there and it is not that hard to find.

Whew!  It's been a week!  Let's just do this shuffle thing so I can finish out my work week while I'm still alive.

"Useless Treasure" by Shriekback

We start off with another track from Why Anything? Why This?  Shriekback started in 1981.  They are perhaps best known for their song, "Nemesis".  I think this new album sound fantastic.

"My Protocol" by Zurich

Next up, we have a first listen - to the UK alt/rock/pop band Zurich and their recent single "My Protocol".  The band is based out of Oxford England. They are playing the Riverside Festival in Oxfordshire this weekend. Speedbuggy USA, another band are featuring here at E2TG, are also playing that festival. Proving the music world is very small.

"Rusty Old Red River" by Tim Henderson

Next up, we have another track from volume 1 of the Legacy Collection by the late Tim Henderson.  I am a sucker for a good river song, and this is a good river song.

"Mad Potter of Biloxi" by Beth McKee

I was so excited to see that Beth McKee was invited with several other Orlando "Women who rock" to join Cyndi Lauper on stage to sing "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun"  - a well-deserved honor.  This is another strong selection from Mckee's Dreamwood Acres album.

"Old New Straitsville Blues" by Tim Easton

Hard travelling Nashville singer-songwriter Tim Easton is up next with a track from his stripped down album Paco and the Melodic Polaroids. Please check out the video performance of this song which was recorded at Trace Horse Studios an analog studio that records artists "straight to tape". I have had the pleasure to visit that studio, and it is a wonderful place tucked away in the Berry Hill section of Nashville.

"Hills of Tuscany" by Eric Andersen

I am so grateful to have been given the opportunity to feature and write about The Essential Eric Andersen.  I was familiar with his name and a little of his music, but hearing this career-spanning compilation has been illuminating.  This was originally the final track on Andersen's 1998 album Memory of The Future.

"Vegas" by Jing Chi

And we close out with some modern jazz fusion from the supergroup Jing Chi.  The band features Robben Ford, Jimmy Haslip, and Vinnie Colaiuta.  Love the sound of this band, and what a great way to close out our week of music here at E2TG.
