Well, I am back after an extended weekend - some much needed time with my daughter.
Let's see... so Lady Gaga is keeping it real by playing a "dive bar" tour which tonight will be my favorite joint - The 5 Spot. And by keeping it real, I mean shutting the place down for two nights, barricading streets, buses, trucks, (and from what I hear) a ton of gear to play two songs tonight. Cool, cool..
Anyway, I will be across the river at The Basement for the fourth ever show by Buck N Stuff. Regular readers will recall that Buck N Stuff is THE best Buck Owens tribute band that I have ever seen. Okay, they are the only Buck Owens tribute band I have ever seen, but I'd be willing to bet that if I had seen others, they would still be the best. Breathing new life into Buck's great songs, it is sure to be a wild, fun, totally awesome experience. 8:30pm. My prediction: Buck N Stuff will melt faces, reassemble faces from the melted remains, and then melt faces once again.
Now, it is Wednesday and we are about to get "Wild"
"She Drives Me Crazy" by Fine Young Cannibals
We begin today's wild ride of a shuffle with a number one hit song from 1989.
"Space Oddity" by Eddie Angel/The Neanderthals
The Neanderthals featuring Eddie Angel (Los Straightjackets) on guitar with a surf rock version of the David Bowie song.
"Ash's Lament (Pokemon Theme)" by Valued Customer
Sadly no longer available, E2TG favorites Valued Customer released a cover album called Fun Covers which featured their take on songs by Drake, Justin Bieber, and this one. Go!
"Sunny" by Frank Sinatra/Duke Ellington
From Francis A. and Edward K. - a cover of the 1966 Bobby Hebb hit song, "Sunny".
"Katie" by The Reivers
So, I figured out that this song from Pop Beloved was actually a cover of a song by The Vulgar Boatmen. Since I could not find a video of the Reivers' version, the Video Playlist contains the original. Further reading revealed that The Vulgar Boatmen were a band that formed around the University of Florida in Gainesville, and that Dale Lawrence of the Indiana punk band The Gizmos was a member of The Vulgar Boatmen. Did you know that Nashville's own Tim Carroll was once a member of The Gizmos? So, in one post, I managed to get from the Austin Texas band formerly known as Zeitgeist to Nashville's Tim Carroll (who hosts the awesome Rock and Roll Happy Hour every Friday at Lady Gaga's favorite Nashville "dive bar".
"Fax Machine Breakup" (Single Mix) by Rodney Cromwell
Next up, the single mix of the new song from UK artist Rodney Cromwell.
"Blues Immigrant" by Matthew Skoller
Some people are born to play the plays, so are driven to it by the events of life. This is an awesome brief history of the 20th Century which would drive anyone to "The Blues".
"Dina drömmar" by Jon Magnusson
Jon Magnusson is a professional social worker and hobby musician based out of Stockholm, Sweden. His music is a mix of folk, punk, and indie rock. This is the title track of an album he released back at the end of 2015. It's been hanging around the playlist for a while, and it was a nice way to wrap up today's shuffle.
