Trending Thursday Morning Shuffle - Duplex Castle Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook

I AM  BACK!  Thanks everyone for your patience.  I should be back to a normal posting schedule now.

I am a bit behind on adding new music to my playlist and answering e-mails, but we'll get there.

In the meantime, after today's post, there are still 428 tracks in my New Music playlist including some awesome songs that haven't popped up yet in a shuffle- so stay tuned!

Last night, at Dee's Country Cocktail Lounge - the amazing Kevn Kinney (Drivin' n Cryin') played a awesome set of music backed by the equally amazing Laur Joamets (aka Little Joe - previously from Sturgill Simpson's band and currently of Drivin' n Cryin').  As an added bonus/surprise, due to Mr. Kinney being delayed by car troubles, Jon Latham played a set that included two covers - "Thirteen" by Big Star and "My Hometown" by Springsteen.  Plus of course, some of his great songs from Real Bad News and his current album Lifers.  Dee's co-owner, Daniel Walker led a wonderful house band who rounded out the night.

Now, let's jump right into this Trending Thursday Shuffle!

"Duplex Blues" by Big Shoes

We start things off with a track from Step On It! by Big Shoes.  This band is filled with Nashville session/touring musicians who have backed some of the biggest names in music. The album is not yet out, but they will be hosting a CD Release Warm Up Show a week from tomorrow at Bourbon Street Blues and Boogie Bar.

"American Castles" by Ben Arthur

Next up, we have the title track from Ben Arthur's most recent album.  The album is mostly answer/response songs to other literary works. Really love this song.

"Eligible Receiver" by MIS+RESS

Next up, we have a first listen to the self-titled debut album of MIS+RESS - which features wonderful ambient, instrumental music. MIS+RESS is a project that features Brian Wenckebach who is from New Jersey.   There is an E2TG connection to this artist, as he was previously a member of the shoegaze band Elika - which was one of the early bands we featured here at E2TG.
"Not Myself" by Bashful Hips

Next up, more from Bashful Hips' new album People.Nature.Death. As I posted Saturday, I have been very impressed by this album. I have always been struck by Bashful Hips' originality and unique sounds, but I feel like these songs are his strongest to date.

"Darling, I Don't Give a F*ck" by Teal Audio (ft. SJ Markman)

Completing a mini run of experimental music, we have a track from The Teal Audio Project. This is a Nashville based project of Rob Stewart - who I met when he was photographing a show I was attending. Electronic music for people who do and don't like electronic music?  I don't know but I like it.

"Faithfully" + "Shore" by Charlie Smyth

Next, we had a twofer - two songs in a row from The Way I Feel by Nashville's Charlie Smyth.  E2TG has been following Smyth - who previously recorded as the Western Shore. He is still backed by his talented wife Kalee Smyth. E2TG historians will note that the Smyth's (as Western Shore) were on the bill of the first every show that E2TG hosted.

"All the Time" (Oyster Boy cover) by Pat Power

Next, we have another track from Pat Power's tribute to Ontario songwriters - Ontario Gothic vol. 1. This is a track from a 2016 release called Bad Mom Demo - which was recorded and produced by Power at the Valued Customer Studios.  Oyster Boy is based out of Ottawa, Ontario.

"Summon the Melon" by Discount Ravioli

And, we close out this shuffle with a track from Baby Arm Sessions by the one and only Discount Ravioli. The song is about summoning a watermelon and judging by what I heard on the track, the watermelon was successfully summoned.
