David J. Horton, aka, Popa Tunes was an early supporter to E2TG.  At a time when I was struggling to find my voice and my purpose in doing this blog, he encouraged me, sent me great music, and I honestly don't think E2TG as you know it today, would exist without his influence and inspiration.

Some of you may know his name from my stories of meeting Darrin Bradbury. David sent me a private message on Facebook in November 2013 to alert me that Darrin Bradbury, who had been the leader of Big Wilson River - a New Jersey band, was moving to Nashville, and he asked me to keep an out on Darrin. I believe I did an okay job discharging those duties.

If I can say a bit more about Popa Tunes... David J Horton was how I first heard about The Foresters when their average age was 10 3/4.

In the early days of E2TG, I joked about being the premiere New York/ New Jersey music blog based in Nashville. That was almost thanks to Popa and the bands and artists he championed and introduced to me - The End Men, The Dead Exs, and more.

He was also the person who introduced me to Couch-By Couchwest , the wonderful on-line music fest that eclipsed the parody aspect to become a real community. I forged friendships through CXCW that remain to this day. And, I was introduced to musical artists that I still follow, some of whom are friends in real life. And. I credit that to David.

And, my story is far from the exception.

David Horton passed away earlier this month after a brief battle with cancer.

David's legacy is in the people he brought together who collective mourn his passing and celebrate his life.

Excited for the release of the latest album by Irish singer-songwriter Ben Reel. Reel had a Nashville Calling and recorded the album here with producer Will Kimbrough (who also played on the album). Plus aid from Tommy Womack and Garry Tallent of the E Street Band.

No relation,, Nicole Boggs callsher band The Reel. Their new single, which we premiered yesterday, is out now!

"Mill Town Blues" by Thomm Jutz (from To Live in Two Worlds, Vol. 1)

We last caught up with Thomm Jutz via Riverland, the album he made with Eric Brace and Peter Cooper. This from his latest solo album. 

"Tinker's Blues" by Jimmy Who & The Night Creatures (from Tinker's Blues)

From the recently released EP by the Nashville band - great stuff.

"Some Kind of Drug" by Lilly Hiatt (from Walking Proof)

Excited that the new album by Nashville singer-songwriter Lilly Hiatt is out. It is the follow-up to her breakthrough album Trinity Lane. 

"Scalemaster Blues - Live" by Watermelon Slim (single)

Blues singer-songwriter and musician Watermelon Slim is back with a double live album called Traveling Man. This is our first taste from that album.

"The Switch" by The Ocelots (from Started to Wonder)

The debut album by the Irish band led by 22 year old twin brothers. A direct submission to me, and I dig it. 

"Love and Leave You" by 100 Mile House (from Love and Leave You)

Our second listen to the Canadian husband and wife duo. Their album was released today. 

"Street Lights" by FLEKS (from Street Lights)

Next up, we have the recently released single from the Austrian indie/alternative/punk band. Really cool hard rocking music.

"Naked Winter" by Mighty Brother (from Naked Winter)

Mighty Brother are a New Orleans band, and this is a single released ahead of their upcoming double album, The Rabbit. The Owl.  Check it out!

"Swallow" by Mayflower Madame (from Swallow)

Next up, we have a single from Prepared For a Nightmare by the Norwegian post-punk, shoegaze band Mayflower Madame.

"Fruit/ I Don't Recall Waking Up" by Alienbaby Collective (Fishbowl/Terrestrial)

Continuing with the international flair of this week's playlist, we have a stirring track from Holland - via another band that falls into that loosely defined post-punk/shoegaze genre.

Weird All the Time" by Mairena (from Weird All the Time)

Mairena is a singer/songwrite and music producer originally from Brazil who moved to England at the beginning of last year. This some interest new music from the latest release.

"Sideways" by Porcelain Pink (from Sideways)

We close things out with a new single from this Brighton based band. Cool stuff
