Hey, I needed to get some "stuff done" today, and I decided to shuffle some music while I got the "stuff done". So, welcome to a rare Saturday shuffle. Limited descriptions - just a ton of cool tunes.
As I mentioned yesterday, E2TG's reigning Artist of the Year was selected by Nashville's Lightning 100 to be their Artist of the Week. As part of that, he played a free show yesterday evening at Soulshine Pizza, and he played one of the best shows I have ever seen him put on. I could not have been more proud.

In the wee hours of the morning, I posted my review of "Shoreline Sessions" a new EP and video project from Weapons of Minor Disruption which features Rob from #E2TG favorite The Danbury Lie. Please check it out. It is really cool (that is the short version of my review, btw).
Last night another of those quintessential East Nashville musical happenings. Hanging out in a kind of funky, kind of divey space with awesome people (many of them incredible musicians) listening to top notch music. Last night, it was the East Room with Kent Eugene Goolsby, Lew Card, and Joey Kneiser and the Living Flames.
Tonight, #E2TG Artist of the Year Jon Latham is playing a FREE show at Soulshine Pizza beginning at 7:00. It is a wrap up to his being Local Artist of the Week for Lightning 100.

The Shoreline Sessions is a new EP and mini movie from a new project called, Weapons of Minor Disruption that features the genius mind of Robert Loncto of The Danbury Lie. The project, which releases on January 8, comes on the heels of the full-length DVD Whispers to Oblivion. That project set video of Loncto’s cross-country trip to the music of The Danbury Lie. For The Shoreline Sessions, the films are more experimental and the music is all original.

Ah, Thursday!
Last night was the opening night of the Jason Ringenberg residency at The 5 Spot in East Nashville. Ringenberg is the Jason from Jason and the Scorchers (the seminal Nashville band beginning in the early 1980s). He is also the Jason from Farmer Jason (host of a PBS kids show and creator of albums for children). His special guest for week 1 was Webb Wilder (another quintessential figure on the 80s Nashville music scene).
Playing to a pretty packed house, Ringenberg and Wilder really seemed to be enjoying themselves. Jason opened with "Halcyon Times" - the title track from a Scorchers album before turning the stage over to Webb Wilder who moved through a set that encompassed his long career. Including, classic Webb Wilder songs like "How Long Can She Last" and "Human Cannonball".
Ringenberg's set included several classic Scorcher's songs as well as songs from his solo albums, and a cover of "Trail of Tears" by the great Georgia band, Guadalcanal Diary.
Wilder then joined Ringenberg to close out the night by each singing a song by the other. Jason sang, "Sitting Pretty" from 1991's Doo Dad and Webb sang "Shop it Around" from the first full-length Scorchers album Lost and Found. They then performed a Farmer Jason song before closing the evening with a really awesome version of Buddy Holly's "Rave On".
Tonight, I am going to check out Joey Kneiser and his band at The East Room. His new album, The Wildness is getting rave reviews.

Wednesday Morning Music Shuffle - Frosty Sailor Mix

Today's post will contain no references to Darrin Bradbury, Aaron Lee Tasjan, or Jon Latham. (damn, I just mentioned them...)
Tim Easton is one of East Nashville's most respected songwriters. He is also (my words not his) the spiritual guiding force behind Campfire Propaganda - a loosely connected group of songwriters on the Eastside who feed off of each other creatively.
Over the past several months, Easton has undertaken the daunting task of posting 100 songs in 100 days - as a way to celebrate his 100th published song. He posted his 100th song yesterday, however, one of those songs was a Bob Dylan cover featuring the McCrary Sisters, Megan Palmer, and Aaron Lee Tasjan (damn, I mentioned him again!). All proceeds from that song go to charity.
Because it was Easton's original intention to post 100 original songs, he decided to post song 101. It is called "Sail Away, Sailors". And you can watch it below. According to Tim Easton, "It's the tale of the Alaska youth traveler who gets a job trimming weed then goes to Mexico, then home to Kodiak Island."
Expect one more song tomorrow, called "One for the Ditch" - just because. Tim Easton is currently working on completing his next album. Keep up with Tim Easton by following his Facebook page.
If you are in Nashville next Monday, look for Tim Easton along with Zach Schmidt opening up Week 2 of the Darrin Bradbury Residency. (damn, I mentioned him again, too!)

Greetings from Tuesday!
First of all, I have to say how amazingly proud I am of Darrin Bradbury who played the first night of his month-long Monday Residency at the Basement East. I know I may sound like a broken record about this, but even at the end of last year, when I named Darrin my Artist of the Year, the idea of his playing a month-long residency at the largest club in East Nashville would have been almost inconceivable (unless you stopped to consider the trajectory he was on). And yet, here he was playing before a sizable crowd filled with some of the best songwriters and musicians in this town.
I was struck once again by Darrin's skill as a songwriter. Back in November of 2013, when a mutual friend (Popa Tune's) told me that Darrin was moving to Nashville, I checked out his music (I had written about his old band Big Wilson River a year earlier, but did not know much about Darrin's solo stuff). Around the time, I started listening to Darrin's songs, a friend of mine posted something on Facebook about how they don't make songwriters like they used to... or something like that. And, I remember thinking that Darrin may be the best pure songwriter I've heard in a long, long time. And, he has only gotten better since then.
Darrin was backed by the kind of band that may only be possible in East Nashville: Laur Joamets (Little Joe) from Sturgill Simpson's band on guitar, Megan Palmer on fiddle, Cameron Carrus on bass, Aaron Shafer-Haiss on drums.
The always amazing Aaron Lee Tasjan opened the night, playing some new tunes and sounding awesome even when he forget the lyrics to a song and sang it out of order.
2015 E2TG Artist of the Year, Jon Latham played next - confirming the wisdom of my selection. By the way, Jon was just named Local Artist of the Week at Nashville Independent station Lightning 100. His song "Anesthesia" will be in rotation this week and he will play a free show Friday at Soulshine Pizza.
For me (in kind a full circle kind of way), a highlight of the evening was Darrin leading the band through a cover of the Merle Travis song made famous by Johnny Cash, "Nine Pound Hammer". This song had been Darrin's warm-up song for all of those Wednesday night Fran's shows back in the day.

Welcome to 2016, #E2TG Style! Well, the "Earies" are over, and no more "Red Cup" songs to be played. We are back to a good old fashioned Morning Music Shuffle...
First a brief recap of the what has transpired since I last posted, and a sneak peak of what is to come.
New Year's Eve Eve - I headed to The Family Wash to see Wild Ponies open for Don Gallardo. It was an amazingly Nashville-typical night of awesome music.
I posted a mega-Video Playlist "Earies" wrap up. New Years Eve, I headed to the legendary Exit/In to ring in the new year - no frill style with some good friends and cool music. Aaron Lee Tasjan and his killer band which included #E2TG Artist of the Year Jon Latham knocked it out of the park (or some other sports metaphor). Chris Knight was awesome, and he really could have cared less about midnight.
New Year's Day was a Friday which meant a trip out to The 5 Spot to ring in 2016 with another outstanding Tim Carroll Rock and Roll Happy Hour.
After that, I kind of dug in and did some writing - the results of which will be out soon.
Tonight! Tonight! The month-long Darrin Bradbury Residency kicks off at The Basement East. The kick off should be out of this world amazing. With 2014 Artist of the Year Bradbury being joined by 2015 Artist of the Year Jon Latham and Artist of the Always Aaron Lee Tasjan. Darrin will be backed by an amazing band. Seriously, this is a "Don't Wanna Miss" event.
Now onto the shuffle...
