Hey! It is Fall Pledge Drive time at WXNA. As you may know, this is the non-profit, listener-supported community radio station that hosts the weekly show I co-host called Double Shot with Joe and Sue. Beyond that, the station has had a tremendous positive impact on the Nashville community (as evidenced by Nashville Scene readers recently naming us Best Radio Station in Nashville). If you're a WXNA listener, please consider donating during this drive. wxnafm.org or 615-933-9962 #LoveWXNA
Another week is here and we have some songs to feature from the New Music playlist which I am still tweaking from my recent switch over to a new music player.
Let's shuffle:
"Death in the Family" by Tom House
We start off this rather gloomy Monday with a knock-out song by one of my favorite songwriters. Tom House certainly never pulls any punches. This track is from his latest album Strange, I Reckon.
"You Terrify" by Teal Audio (ft. Jeremy Lipsin)
Next up, we have another track from Teal Audio Sessions. Teal Audio is currently based in Nashville, and is primarily the recording project of Rob Stewart with some others. I am digging this album, and this may be my favorite track so far.
"The Sound of Jesus Humming" by Maynard and the Musties
Next up, we have another track from Nashville Magic - the new album by Nashville by way of New York band Maynard and the Musties. So happy to have this music added to my playlist.
"THE H{ear}T BEET" by Ugggy
Next up, we have the (sort of) title track from Ugggy's September release The H[ear]T BEET TAPE. As I have mentioned, Ugggy has released new music on the first of every month since March. He is 1/2 of E2TG 2016 Band of the Year Valued Customer.
"Lubbock County" by The Kernal
Next up, we have a track from the album Light Country which came out earlier this year. The Kernal is a most interesting recording artist who is based in Tennessee - halfway between Nashville and Memphis. Great song.
"My New Town" by MJ Bishop
Next up, we have another track from Give It Away Again by Nashville singer-songwriter MJ Bishop. As I have mentioned, I met her and got this CD during Americana Fest. The album features Peter Hyrka and Sergio Webb among others. I really dig this song.
"Weary One" by Ladies Gun Club
Next up, how about another track from Take My Love Away. Ladies Gun Club formed in L.A. but are now based in Nashville. Featuring Sarah Roberts and Cafe Rooster Records co-founder Sally Jaye.
"Honey Won't You" by Applewood Road
And we close out today's shuffle with another track from the self-titled album by Applewood Road. Recorded in analog using one mic. This power-house trio features Amber Rubarth, Emily Barker, and Amy Speace.
