Today is Friday, and that means it is time for a brand new and all new Featured Friday Playlist of New and Recent Releases. Remember you can follow, the E2TG Featured Friday Playlist on Spotify.
So, I have been trying to figure what exactly I want to do with this space of the blog - besides my observations on contemporary life. On Friday, I try to write about the songs in the Featured Friday Playlist, but it is hard to get to them all on Friday - so I thought why not spread that out over the week. For today, I will be providing some info and reflections on the first six songs in the list down below because we don't do a regular shuffle on Friday and then I will cover the rest up here throughout next week.
Right now, I want to highlight a couple of recent releases that aren't on Spotify (yet or at all).
We met Ugggy has a member of Valued Customer who were early favorites of E2TG and eventually were named Band of the Year. A few years back, Ugggy released new music every month for a whole year and in the midst of that, we named him our Artist of the Year. Since that onslaught, he has been quite in terms of releasing music, but he has been busy making really interesting art. A month or so back, he released a stunning new song, and I wanted to highlight it here.
Very few artists can be credited with creating genres of music. I have no idea if that is true, but it seems like it might be. A few years ago, E2TG became aware of The Electric Grandmother who invented the Sit-Com Core genre. Their early albums referenced and were based upon classic sit-coms. It is kind of an obsession (not be judgmental here) of the bands principal members Pete and Mary Alice. We featured their non-sit-com album Cancelled a couple of years ago. That was a concept album about a man whose favorite t.v. cop show was cancelled. They are back now with yet another concept album Relaunch - which involves Ronald Reagan, the Space Shuttle, and more. I can guarantee you that The Electric Grandmother is like nothing you have ever heard.
Now, given a listen to the Featured Friday Playlist and scroll down to below the jump for the first six songs in the playlist.

Featured Friday Playlist (Songs 1-6)
1. "It Could Be the Dancing" by Cursive is Code
Cursive is Code is the new project featuring Jason P. Krug. It is entirely possible Jason's old band The Grimm Generation was my intro to Connecticut music, but it may have been The Danbury Lie (it is kind of fuzzy and all happened in a short period of time). Krug released a solo album a couple of years back and we named him our Artist of the Year. Now, he is back with a new project and a new but familiar sound. This is our first listen to it, and we are digging it. (We is I - just a habit).2. "On the Other Steel" by Adam Kurtz
You may know Kurtz from Buck n Stuff (the only Buck Owens tribute band that matters) or from his pedal steel work with several big name Americana-type artists and bands. Or, you may know him for his budding chicken wing empire or his bowling fame. Or, you may not know him at all, but if the latter is true, it is time to remedy that. Kurtz just released his instrumental pedal steel tribute to Randy Travis' classic Country album Storms of Life - which he calls Storms of Steel. Kurtz is a self-taught pedal steel player and although I know nothing about the pedal steel, I think he is really good.3. "Memphis Loud" by Victor Wainwright and the Train
Out today! This is the title track from the new album by the Memphis based, Grammy nominated keyboardist, singer, and songwriter. We have already featured another track from this album. This title track is red hot. Check it out.
4. "We Will Become Silhouettes" by Tayls with Creature Comfort
Nashville band Tayls recently released this cover of the Postal Service's song. On the track the band led by Taylor Cole teams up with Cole's other band Creature Comfort and a host of Music City's finest for a wonderful cover.5. "Megawatt" by Sammy Brue
Next, we have another taste from Utah singer-songwriter Sammy Brue's forthcoming album Crash Test Kid - which is due out June 12. It has been fun watching Brue develop as an artist. When I first heard him, he was extremely young and very wise for his years. Here he is making the difficult transition from "really good for his age" to just plain "really good". I am looking forward to the new album.
6. "97 Estoria" by Gasoline Heart
I am not completely sure, but I think I first heard of Gasoline Heart through Instagram, and to be honest, I am not sure if I had heard their music until now. I got turned on to this release through an Instagram post by Nashville singer-songwriter Joseph Bradshaw who appears on this album. I just became aware of Bradshaw when I saw him at a $2 Tuesday last year. These are the types of coincidences that keep E2TG fun for me.
