Honestly, right now, I don't even know where to focus my outrage and frustration and utter disbelief that our nation has reached the point it has... #Resist #Persist - Take a breath when necessary. Refocus. Keep going. Still waiting for the GOP leadership to step up... waiting... waiting...
So... I am back after a extra long weekend. Took Friday off to run errands and rest up. Other than Double Shot on Saturday, I most hung after after Friday night. Plans for E2TG's 6th Anniversary month at The 5 Spot are coming together. More details very soon.
On to the shuffle for a Monday morning. As we always do, we focus on tracks with a Music City connection. Let's go!
"Red Giant" by The 81's
We start out with another excellent track from Big Man - which features Nashville's Tim Carroll, Luella, and Cameron Carrus - plus Tom Siering who wrote the words. Cool tune.
"Easy Street" by Reckless Johnny Wales
Reckless Johnny Wales returns to the E2TG Shuffle with another track from his most recent release - 5 Star Meat and Three. Is he a former Music Row exec? Is he a mysterious wandering troubadour? Is he the most interesting man in the world? I don't know... probably, possibly, and it sure seems like it. A true Nashville original. Check him out!
"TN, I-24E" by Joseph Mooradian
For the second shuffle in a row, we have a track from Joseph Mooradian's new CD Pink and Green. This one is about the stretch of road that leads from Nashville to The University of the South - Sewanee - where Mooradian attended college.
"Hot Dogg (Shades Up)" by Microwave Mountain
One of my absolute favorite "new" Nashville bands is up next with the lead and (sort of) title track from their album (Shades Up). They are a super fun live band and they made a cool record. Can't wait to hear what they have in store next.
"Yo Soy Tejana (I'm a Texas Girl)" by Suzette Lawrence and the Neon Angels
As this song title suggestions, Suzette Lawrence is from Texas, but she lives in Nashville now - after spending many years in Los Angeles - and being an active part of the music scene in that city. This is some red hot rockabilly music. She just recently celebrated a birthday so the Shuffle decided it was a good time for her to make her E2TG debut.
"Downtown Eloise" by Brian Wright and the Waco Tragedies
Coincidentally, Brian Wright is also from Texas originally, now lives in Nashville, and spend many years in L.A. This is an older track from the album Dog Ears with his old band - The Waco Tragedies. As you may recall, Wright is the E2TG Artist of the Year for 2016. He is currently on tour playing with Aaron Lee Tasjan - who is opening some dates for St. Paul and the Broken Bones.
"Kevin's Song" by Brian Milligram
Coincidentally, Brian Milligram is also named Brian. Who says there are no patterns in randomness? This is a powerful track from Milligram's album Dead Letters. His, in your face, punk/folk music is refreshing. I got to see him play live a few weeks back, and he sounded great.
"Make Mine a Double" by Eight O' Five Jive
Friday night, I went out to the Lipstick Lounge in East Nashville to help celebrate the birthday of Andy Scheinman - the guitarist for Eight O'Five Jive. I was treated to a two hour set by the powerhouse jump blues band. If you ever get the chance to see this band, I highly recommend it. Fun music about sex and drinking and other cool stuff.
"When God Comes Back" by All Them Witches
All Them Witches just released a new album called Sleeping Through the War on New West Records. This track goes back to their previous release Lightning At the Door. They are one of Nashville's hottest bands right now. Check them out in a city near you.
