Your daily reminder:  The pandemic is not over, wear a damn mask, Black Lives Still Matter, White Privilege is real, police should not be the first responder to every situation that arises. The next time you see a person of color acting "suspicious" ask yourself several questions before you call the police: would their actions be "suspicious" if they were white? do they deserve to die for whatever it is they are doing that you see as "suspicious"? Is there some other action you can take rather than calling the cops? Like ignoring them? Walking away? Talking to them? Anything?

I was thinking about the saying, "ignorance is bliss". These days there is a lot to unpack in that saying, but I would add at least one codicil: "willful ignorance is evil".


Well, it is time for a new Featured Friday Playlist!  We have another good one this week.  About six fewer songs than last week.  A fair number of E2TG favorites, local favorites, and a health dose of newcomers to E2TG.

"The Profits Speak" by Slump Test (from Slump Test)

I found out this album had been added to Spotify last week after I completed my Playlist. Slump Test is a Nashville punk band featuring Benjamin Jason Douglas, Ryan Dishen, and Isaac Anthony.  They hosted (host) the monthly Decline of Southern Civilization shows at The 5 Spot - which was the last show I saw in March before the shut down. They have been known to add other musicians - like the Nashville Horns, Tom Schreck, Drew Kohl and others.

"The Day David Duke Came to Destrehan" by Dirt Reynolds (from Scalawag)

When singer-songwriter Chris Watts was forced (by an unfortunate namesake) to change is stage name, he went all-in, and Dirt Reynolds was born. A band - featuring Chirs Watts, Jason Paradise, Ryan Dishen, and Drew Kohl. A great southern rock and roll band. This is their debut album. 

"Get to Know Me Again" by Danny Henry (single)

First of all, Danny Henry is Real.  Second, he is a remarkable human being and probably one of the purest entertainers I know.  On this recent single, he is joined by Caitlin Kalafus, Fernando Perdomo, and Everett Kelly.  Love this song.

"Undertow" by The Danberrys (single)

Long-time East Nashville duo, Ben Deberry and Dorothy Daniel have a new album that sounds fantastic. Deberry has been a regular at my two favorite Nashville bars (The 5 Spot and Dee's) for a long time. It is always nice to hear him play, but it is especially nice to hear The Danberrys making music.

And, we close out this mostly local portion of the shuffle - with a delightful non-local track. This is the latest single - a timely number - from The Neville Staple Band. Neville Staple was a founding member of The Specials - and we have been featuring his new music over the last few years - with his band and with his wife Sugary Staple.
