E2TG 12/4/2020 - Featured Friday - Dumb it Down Mix (Delightfully Devilish Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Well, well, well - a combination of a several post-Thanksgiving releases and my catching up on my inbox means we have our biggest Featured Friday Playlist ever: 55 songs and nearly 3 1/2 hours of music.  That means I have my work cut out for me recapping, but I will do it. Maybe expect fewer words per song... maybe... I am typically not good at fewer words...

The recap begins below the jump with the first 15 songs!

Featured Friday Playlist (Songs 1-15)

"Dumb it Down" by This Frontier Needs Heroes
We start off with the third single from Go With the Flow from Nashville's This Frontier Needs Heroes. The album in due in January.
"Scratchin' at the Cat" by Stuffy Shmitt
Stuff Happens is finally out. Stuffy Shmitt's first album in over eight years is also his masterpiece.  He will be doing a virtual CD release from The 5 Spot tomorrow night.
"Delightfully Devilish" by LadyCouch
Another new single from LadyCouch - the band that features Allen Thompson and Keshia Bailey. I have been a fan since I first starting seeing them almost overflowing the stage at The 5 Spot with so many members and making such good music.
"Desperation Waltz" by Josh Halper
Josh Halper's solo album is called Alrightnik. This is another lovely instrumental. Halper is a guitarist who has played with numerous Nashville bands and artists and he is a WXNA DJ. Our old friend Cameron Carrus plays on this album and even gets a dedication track perfect for his diminutive size. ;-)
"Foolish Pride" by Anana Kaye
December brings another new single from Anana Kaye and her partner in life and music Irakli Gabriel. If you haven't heard her music, then you just might need to hear one of your new favorite artists.
"Coming Days" by Carl Anderson
Virginia native and East Nashville favorite Carl Anderson has released a new two song single. He has been one of my favorite songwriters ever since Darrin Bradbury introduced me to his music while Anderson was still living in Virigina.
"Poison Arrow (Come into This Place) [Live]" by Divine Horsemen
From a recent live compilation culled from three live performances recorded between 1985-1987. Divine Horsemen were on the cutting edge of what would become alt-country and later part of the Americana umbrella. Mixing punk rock and country music in most unique blend. Featuring Chris D. and our friend Julie Christensen.
"Static Swell" by Palm Ghosts
Palm Ghosts are my favorite UK new wave/post punk band. Except they not from the UK and I used to see band members Joseph Lekkas and Benjamin Douglas on a regular basis (when I saw people on a regular basis). Seriously though, this is great music - that is definitely inspired by some of the great UK (Manchester in particular) bands you know - but is also original and not dated one bit.
"Hazmat Suit" by Bill Lloyd
A bit of topical humor and important advice from legendary Nashville songwriter Bill Lloyd whose legend continues to grow.
"Flow" by The Danbury Lie
Next - a new single from The Danbury Lie who has been an E2TG favorite for most of our now nearly 10 year run. I have long called his music experimental (and I think it falls into that category), but it is definitely more accessible than some music that earns that moniker. I know some of my Nashville friends may not be familiar with his music - no I recommend checking it out.
"Sludge of the Sugar Plum Fairy" by Aqua Velvet
Look, I will just flat out say it, Jim Hoke is a musical genius. Hoke is a multi-instrumentalist whose credits would take me a whole post to list. Aqua Velvet (which often features the vocal stylings of Kristi Rose - although this is an instrumental) often presents familiar songs in imaginative arrangements (by Hoke) featuring strings and horns. Since they aren't able to do their annual Christmas show, they have released this Christmas album.
"Why Did She Dump Me in Shibuya?" by New Yeller
Following their earlier single "Mama's Got a Gig" - the Vermont and Brooklyn based band are back with this rather humorous (unless you are the dumpee) song about a breakup while on vacation in Japan.
"Olen rikas sillä minulla on teidät" by Bad Sauna
We have featured a couple of single from Finnish rock band Bad Sauna - now, we have the title track from their just released new album which translates to I’m Rich Because I Have You.
"Woods" by The Riverbreaks
The Riverbreaks originally formed in the Washington DC area by Nashville native Ryan Bailey who is now based in Nashville again.  Their latest album Little Dreams is out now and features a couple of local favorites: Jon Radford on drums and Mary Bragg on background vocals.
"Lines" by Jelena Ciric
We were first introduced to singer-songwriter Jelena Ciric when she was based in Toronto.  Now, based in Iceland, she just released her Shelters one EP and this is the opening track. A beautiful song to close out this long segment of music.
