E2TG 12/4/2020 - Featured Friday - Dumb it Down Mix (Delightfully Devilish Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Well, well, well - a combination of a several post-Thanksgiving releases and my catching up on my inbox means we have our biggest Featured Friday Playlist ever: 55 songs and nearly 3 1/2 hours of music.  That means I have my work cut out for me recapping, but I will do it. Maybe expect fewer words per song... maybe... I am typically not good at fewer words...

The recap begins below the jump with the first 15 songs!

E2TG 12/01/2020 - Month 12 - Zombie Romance Mix (Foolish and Blue Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Well - it is the first day of the last month of the year. I guess I am sentimental or something - I always see the end of the calendar year as a good excuse to look back and make changes... in this most unusual of years - I am not clear about anything... but I do need to do some reflecting...

The upcoming music listing is getting rather skimpy - partially due to December being typically slow for new releases and partially due to my being way behind of going through my e-mail...

Anyway, onward...

Our recap of this week's Playlist continues with songs 11-13:

11. "The Metro - Orchestra Version" by Berlin
The iconic L.A. synth pop band fronted by Terri Nunn reimagine some of their biggest hits with a full symphonic orchestra.  This was always one of my favorite songs by the band. Nashville's own Lemuel Hayes (Buck n Stuff) toured with the band last year as a drum tech and got to play drums for a couple or few shows.
12. "Lord of the Flies" by Lars Finberg
L.A. singer-songwriter Lars Finberg is up next with a track from his second solo album Tinnitus Tonight.  Finberg is the leader of the band The Intelligence. Really dig this
13. "Mountains and Grooves" by Tuath
And, we close this short segment of music with the new single from the Irish band that originally formed to promote the Irish language. This fantastic single - the first in a series of singles - featured vocalist  Jude Barriscale of the band Lunch Machine.

E2TG 7/17/2020 - Featured Friday - Heartache Mix (Talk to Angels Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Some days, I want to lose hope, but I don't have that luxury.  People are at risk. Not just from COVID-19 (but definitely many, many people are at risk from that - as the U.S. response has continued to be a dismal failure). LGBTQ+ people are at risk of discrimination, violence, and persecution. People of Color - Black and Brown people are at risk for policy brutality and discrimination, and persecution.  People with disabilities are at risk for having their right stripped away, the access to education hampers, and increased marginalization. The poor are at risk of having their meager earning cut - while failed CEOs cash-in on their golden parachutes of having housing ripped away. The list goes on and on.  It is up to us, who are not on these lists or only marginally (if at all) impacted by these things....

Well, we have reached the end of another work week, and that means it is time to unveil another Featured Friday Playlist.  This week's list is 33 songs and exactly 2 hours of music (all new and recently released).  I think I have fulfilled my mission to featured diverse and generally independent music. Enjoy and please Follow the Featured Friday Playlist on Spotify.  Mostly, if you discover new music that you love by reading E2TG - do whatever you can to support that music. Buy merch, spread the word, attend shows (when it is safe), and follow the bands on their social media sites.

Our review of the Playlist commences below the jump with the first 8 song.  We will recap the rest of the list throughout next week in this space.

E2TG 6/18/2020 - Featured Friday - Foolish and Blue Mix (Shelf Life Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Happy Juneteenth!

So much on my mind on so many fronts. The world is on fire and changes are coming.  The old guard is trying to inflict as much damage as possible while they still can, and the apologist and enablers are wringing hands and trying to explain it all away.  The next five to eight months or more will not be easy.  I am already stressing out about election day. There is so much at stake.

It is Father's Day weekend, the first Father's Day since my Dad passed away. In general, lately, I am not a fan of holidays. It creates a lot of pressure on people whose lives don't conform to some socially accepted pattern.

Nashville is moving forward with reopening - going against their own roadmap - as cases and transmission rates increase. Most people seem to think that if they pretend it is all over - then it will go away.  Meanwhile, the right continues to push the idea that the pendemic is a media-driven hoax or exaggeration.

But, despite all this, overall, I am upbeat and optimistic about life. That could and probably will change, but I am enjoying it.

Well, this week's Featured Friday Playlist is twice as long as last week's.  There were a bunch of new releases this week.  Our recap begins below with songs 1-7.  We will recap the rest next week in this space.
