E2TG 5/18/2021 - Out of Kindness I Suppose - Ash Planet Mix (Chimneyville Remix)

Thinking today about kindness.  First of all - don't believe the hype - kindness still exists and it is all around, you just have to look for it.

I do feel like in some circles kindness gets a bad rap.  The whole mistaking kindness for weakness thing.

But then, I heard something yesterday - the whole rant was kind of stupid, and I won't go into details, but the relevant part was some idea that somehow - "toughness" or aggressiveness was kind and gentleness was unkind.  First of all, I do agree that there are times when being direct is ultimately kinder than hedging ones comments. But, that directness issued too abruptly or sharply - can be less than kind.

Ultimately, I think kindness is thinking of others as well as thinking of ones self (self-kindness is important too).  Apply that how you will...

The next part of the Featured Friday Playlist covers songs 20-27:

20. "All We Need" by Vela Rosa
Canadian band. 2nd single from forthcoming debut album.
21. "Hold On My Love" by The Ruddy Ruckus

22. "Simple" by Indigo Road

23. "Shine" by Hannah Schzde

24. "Dreamed Not Felt" by Faraji Heritage Experiment
Fantastic instrumental from this French based composer. Combines jazz fusion, beatmaking, tripping piano, broken beats, warmth, nostalgia, and abstract hip-hop.
25. "Restless" by Nathan Lawr

26. "Absolument" by Luke Concannon
UK artist. I love this song. Check it out.
27. "Fading Out - Acoustic" by Ben Hemming

E2TG 12/01/2020 - Month 12 - Zombie Romance Mix (Foolish and Blue Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Well - it is the first day of the last month of the year. I guess I am sentimental or something - I always see the end of the calendar year as a good excuse to look back and make changes... in this most unusual of years - I am not clear about anything... but I do need to do some reflecting...

The upcoming music listing is getting rather skimpy - partially due to December being typically slow for new releases and partially due to my being way behind of going through my e-mail...

Anyway, onward...

Our recap of this week's Playlist continues with songs 11-13:

11. "The Metro - Orchestra Version" by Berlin
The iconic L.A. synth pop band fronted by Terri Nunn reimagine some of their biggest hits with a full symphonic orchestra.  This was always one of my favorite songs by the band. Nashville's own Lemuel Hayes (Buck n Stuff) toured with the band last year as a drum tech and got to play drums for a couple or few shows.
12. "Lord of the Flies" by Lars Finberg
L.A. singer-songwriter Lars Finberg is up next with a track from his second solo album Tinnitus Tonight.  Finberg is the leader of the band The Intelligence. Really dig this
13. "Mountains and Grooves" by Tuath
And, we close this short segment of music with the new single from the Irish band that originally formed to promote the Irish language. This fantastic single - the first in a series of singles - featured vocalist  Jude Barriscale of the band Lunch Machine.

E2TG 11/11/2020 - Mid-Week Holiday - Drug Store Wine Mix (Everything Remix)

Today is Veteran's Day - a time to pause and remember those who served our nation in the military.

I have the day off work. In the past, I have taken a day off from blogging when I am off work, but I am choosing today to press on.

Our Featured Friday Playlist recap rolls on with songs 22-26:

22. "Medicine" by The Sea at Midnight
Starting things off we have LA based postpunk band The Sea at Midnight with a track from the  debut self-titled album. Really great stuff that reminds of a lot of great bands I love.
23. "Dosed" by Arran Sym
Coincidentally, we follow up a song called "Medicine" with a song called "Dosed".  This is a track from the another debut - this time the EP 1000 Micrograms of Love via Scottish producer and artist Arran Sym.  Really digging this.
24. "Illinois by Numbers" by Moral Mazes
Next up, we have a great new track from Moral Mazes - which features members of Jawbox, The Bomb, Airstream Futures,  and more.  This is from a recently released 7".
25. "White and Black Angels" by Monsieur Minimal
This is our third time (unless I lost count) featuring Greek artist Monsieur Minimal - we had previously featured the track Easteria - which is the title track from his new album.
26. "The Distances" by Cosmopolis
There has definitely been a mood and feel to this segment of music, and this new single from global band Cosmopolis is a great way to close it out. The band's members are from UK, Belgium, and Australia.
Tomorrow - we wrap up this week's playlist - with songs 27-31...
