So, here is the brand new Featured Friday Playlist - jam packed with returning E2TG favorites, long-anticipated album releases and as usual lots of new (to us) artists.
Reminder, I am taking next week off - so E2TG will return on March 29 when we will pick up the recap at song #12 (but I'm getting ahead of myself - songs 1-11 are below...
As usual, you can check out the whole playlist on Spotify and if you dig the Playlist give us a follow. If you dig any of the music, find a way to support the artists: by music and merch, follow and share them on social media, when it is safe, go to shows...
Featured Friday Playlist
"Last Days of Rome" by David Olney; Anana Kaye
Whispers and Sighs is finally out. I have been looking forward to this album since I first heard David Olney was working with Anana Kaye and Irakli Gabriel. The album, which sadly turned out to be Olney's final studio album is a masterpiece and represents the best of what I love so much which is "old" Nashville (Olney's history goes back to the 70s and the Outlaws) and "new" Nashville - Kaye and Gabriel moved to Nashville from New York in recent years.
"I Can't Dance" by Zach Schmidt
You have no idea how excited I am to have some new music from Zach Schmidt to bring to you. I think I literally asked him dozens of times when we would see his new album at various $2 Tuesdays.... After being caught in record label red tape, the release is upon us and this is the first single. Raise a Banner is the name of the album and it will be out April 16.
"The Kids" by Palm Ghosts
It is release day for Lifeboat Candidate - the new album from Palm Ghosts. As the initial singles hinted at - the new album finds the band expanding on their sound and bringing more great post-punk/new wave music to Music City.
"Queen of Nothing" by Lindsay Ellyn
We are especially excited to bring you a new single from E2TG favorite Lindsay Ellyn. It is the title track from her full-length debut - due out in May. This seems to be the year for having our anticipation quenched.
"Lucky Guy" by Jeff Thorneycroft
Next, we have the new single from Nashville singer-songwriter and bassist. It follows a single released last October. We have previously seen Thorneycroft playing with Tom Mason and in the reformed The Rembrandts (among others).
"Cerulean" by Nashville Ambient Enemble
We previously featured the debut single from this all-star collective. Now, the album is out and today we have the title track. This song was written by Jack Silverman - while the rest of the album was originated by bandleader Michael Hix and filled out by the rest of the ensemble.
"Undead" by The Rayo Brothers
Next up, we have the new single from this Cajun folk/rock band from Lafayette, Louisiana. The band is lead by brothers Daniel and Jesse Reaux.
"Stealing from Friends Has Never Been So Easy" by Jacob the Horse
Also just out is the 2nd album by California band Jacob the Horse called College Party Mixtape, Vol. 1. We have featured two of the singles already. A really fun band.
"Hallelujah Train" by Amy Speace; The Orphan Brigade
Next up, we have another single from the forthcoming There Used to Be Horses Here (April 30) which was made with the group The Orphan Brigade (who we have seperately featured). The Orphan Brigades core members are Ben Glover, Joshua Britt, and Neilson Hubbard. Hubbard produced Speace's last album Me & the Ghost of Charlemagne.
"Turn Me Loose (I'll Never Be the Same)" by Todd Snider
April 23 is the release date for the new Todd Snider album First Agnostic Church of Hope and Wonder. Today, we have the second single from that album. The song title comes from something Snider heard Jerry Jeff Walker yell to his band which it turns out comes from something rodeo cowboys yell when they are ready to ride. The song name checks the late, great Col. Bruce Hampton.
"Thirsty" by Desert Hollow
And we close this segment of music with the title track from the forthcoming debut EP (due May 21) from this California duo. A great song to close out the day. By the way, Desert Hollow is Xander Hitzig and Nicole Olney. As far as I know Nicole Olney is no relation to the late, great David Olney who kicked off this Playlist but I thought it was a cool coincidence nonetheless.
