E2TG 7/20/2021 - Knee Deep - 3 Heads Mix (Explosure Remix)

I haven't been writing too many of my general thoughts lately.  I guess I have been trying to listen more- maybe? I hope. I have observed that in this age of ... whatever age we are in... there we are given many opportunities to comment, but that doesn't always mean we should. Mansplaining or other types of abusive communication begin with the idea that one must interject his or her opinion at every opportunity.

On a more innocuous level - but still potentially annoying or even abusive - is social media comments. Like if I post that I love pickles.  Comments are good to agree or even to say you don't care for pickles - but it is not cool to berate me for liking them.  Or, if I comment you don't understand and if other comments indicate that others did understand and/or appreciated the comment.  You can either use google to try to understand or simply scroll on. If someone posts about a band that means a lot to them - it really doesn't matter that they mean nothing to me or that I don't like them or whatever - if that band is not my thing I can scroll on.

I think that last is an example of something that might go down different in person versus on-line. Friendly joking tones can get lost in translation and come off the wrong way.

One final example - if a friend makes a post and someone I don't know responds - it might be good to let the original poster respond or not - because I may not know the nature of the relationship between the two.  I know people who have left Facebook because of how their friends (who are on the same political side) treated a family member who expressed a different opinion.

So, I am bad at it - but listening more and talking less is a good practice.  However, that is not to say that speaking up for beliefs is bad - it is vital - but it often a matter or timing and context.

Featured Friday Playlist recap (part 3) (songs 24-31):

24. "Taurus Sun" by Lenny
First off today, we have the latest single from this pop-folk singer who is originally from British Columbia and now based in Montreal.
25. "I. Muse" by LIMINA
Next up, we have a single from the forthcoming album by Tyler Durham - an L.A. based composer - who records as LIMINA.

26. "Starstruck" by Liyon

Next up, we have a new single from this songwriter and producer who has spent time in Toronto and L.A. and who recently returned to his hometown on Montreal.

27. "Girl You Changed" by Kick and the Hug
Next up, we have the new single from a band that formed in Boulder, Colorado but whose members are now spread across the country. The song was recorded remotely.

29. "Love Me Again" by New Voyage
Okay, so this was the New Voyage I meant to feature last week - the dangers of late night playlist creation and bands with the same name releasing music weeks apart. This one is an alternative/synthwave band from the UK.
30. "Me Myself & I" by Hodaya singer
Next up, we have the new single from this pop/EDM singer.
31. "Honey Bee" by Timothy and the Apocolypse

E2TG 9/10/2020 - Ready or Not or Really Not - Women and Men Mix (Have Not Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Today, we wrap up our recap of this week's Playlist and make way for a new list coming up around midnight Central Time.  (songs 23-26):

23. "The Fever" by Thrillsville
We previously featured L.A. based darkwave/goth pop band Thrillsville and their quarantine inspired song "Lockdown". This new single is inspired by the Twilight Zone episode of the same name. Both song and show deal with addition and obsession and the elusive satisfaction that the object of the obsession promises but never delivers.
24. "Mandriliando" by Mandril!
I recently started getting e-mails from the Bogota, Columbia based label Discos Infante. The text of the e-mail is in Spanish and is contained in an image so it is possible to cut and paste into a translation tool. But, that is okay, because the labels social media posts - when translated are beautifully poetic but give little information about the bands. The two bands I featured so far seem to have little or no social media presence themselves. Regardless, the music is wonderful.  Check it out.
25. "Going Up" by Jabbawoki
Next up, the lead track from Something's Cooking - the debut EP by the Leeds band Jabbawoki. The band's sound mixes indie, hip-hop, and funk in most interesting ways. The lead track is a short, vibey piece featuring murmured voices. The track "Unkle Funkle" was the first single and probably a better representation of the band - so check them out.
26. "Ffoi" by Ghostlawns
We close out this week's Playlist with the second single by the Cardiff, Wales based Ghostlawns - The track is pronounced ph-o-ee.  The atmospheric song is from the band's forthcoming debut album Motorik - due out October 30. A nice way to close out the week's Featured Friday Playlist.
