Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!
I haven't been writing too many of my general thoughts lately. I guess I have been trying to listen more- maybe? I hope. I have observed that in this age of ... whatever age we are in... there we are given many opportunities to comment, but that doesn't always mean we should. Mansplaining or other types of abusive communication begin with the idea that one must interject his or her opinion at every opportunity.
On a more innocuous level - but still potentially annoying or even abusive - is social media comments. Like if I post that I love pickles. Comments are good to agree or even to say you don't care for pickles - but it is not cool to berate me for liking them. Or, if I comment you don't understand and if other comments indicate that others did understand and/or appreciated the comment. You can either use google to try to understand or simply scroll on. If someone posts about a band that means a lot to them - it really doesn't matter that they mean nothing to me or that I don't like them or whatever - if that band is not my thing I can scroll on.
I think that last is an example of something that might go down different in person versus on-line. Friendly joking tones can get lost in translation and come off the wrong way.
One final example - if a friend makes a post and someone I don't know responds - it might be good to let the original poster respond or not - because I may not know the nature of the relationship between the two. I know people who have left Facebook because of how their friends (who are on the same political side) treated a family member who expressed a different opinion.
So, I am bad at it - but listening more and talking less is a good practice. However, that is not to say that speaking up for beliefs is bad - it is vital - but it often a matter or timing and context.

Featured Friday Playlist
"Don't Let Me Go" by Daniel Takes a Train (from Last Ticket to Tango - 2021)
First up, we have a track from the debut full-length album by this London based indie pop collective.
"3 Heads Are Better Than 1" by Paul Gillings (from Invisible Prison - 2020)
Next up, we have a track from a release from about a year ago from this UK based electric blues harmonica player.
"Let Me Be Your Moonlight" by Round Roomers (single - 2021)
Next up, we have the radio edit of an interest track earlier this year. The song lyrics were written by a baker from Belgium (Jimmy Coenen), the music was composed by a Nashville songwriter (Andy Dixon). The song was performed by Chad Wilson of The Wilson Brothers Band). The song was recorded in Round Room Studios in Nashville - hence the project name - Round Roomers.
"Girls Named Erica" by Jeremy Porter And the Tucos (from Candy Coated Cannonball - 2021)
Next, we have a track from this January 2021 release by this rave up rock band from Michigan.
"Explosure" by Destination Dimension (from Bands Against Brutality - 2020)
And we close with a track from a benefit compilation released last year at the height of the protests. Destination Dimension are a post-hardcore band from Connecticut. We were led to the compilation by our friends Them Airs - who also appear on the release.
