E2TG 7/16/2021 - Featured Friday - Artvertisement Mix (Carninal Shapes Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

It is Friday, and we have a ton of new and recent releases in our brand new Featured Friday Playlist.  Thanks to all who are following along.  Just a reminder, every Friday, we post a new playlist and we spend the time in between recapping the music.

Of note:  E2TG favorite Jon Byrd has released Me & Paul his new EP with pedal steel master Paul Niehaus.

This week also brings the title track from the forthcoming new album from Darrin Bradbury.  If you don't know Darrin Bradbury - welcome to E2TG - we are happy to have you here.

Here is the mind-blowing new video via ANTI- Records

Featured Friday Playlist recap (Part 1) (songs 1-15):

1. "Artvertisement" by Darrin Bradbury
Some may only know Darrin Bradbury as a sardonic, sit-down folk singer who combines humor and brutal truths in what this music blogger called once called Redneck Noir in No Depression.  But, if you've been around long enough - you probably know that Darrin has a definite punk side - which has come out in some of his live performances - often when backed by bands that include the likes of Margo Price on drums - for example.  In Ryan Sobb and the Dead Mall - he has found the perfect foil to capture this energy on record.  This track clocks in at just over one minute and features the kind of lyrics on expects from a Darrin Bradbury song packaged in a high energy punk rock song.
2. "Carnival Shapes" by Ryan Sobb and the Dead Mall
Speaking of Ryan Sobb and the Dead Mall - I saw them live a week or so ago, and I was once again reminded that they are one of the best bands in Nashville.  A power trio - live they can pivot from a high energy punk attack to a slightly quieter tone - all featuring Ryan Sobb's insightful and subtly funny/emotionally powerful lyrics. Their new EP is out today, and we have the title track.
3. "(note to self)" by The '94 Knicks
Next up, we have the first single from the forthcoming new album from New York band The '94 Knicks.  As far as I know - the band does not include any former NBA players - but it does feature Sam Braverman - who E2TG readers know from his solo project Logan X. Cool stuff.
4. "Where Are You Now?" by Georgia English
Next up, we have the first single from the forthcoming new album Pain and Power - which will be released July 30 with a first-ever illustrated album.  English is a long-time active member of the Nashville music community who I first met through her work with Girls Write Nashville.  The ambitious project features songs that outline the human condition in these strange new times and includes color-illustrated pictures lyrics for each song.
5. "Ready for the Times to Get Better" by David Newbould
Another long-time Nashville songwriter David Newbould has released a new single. Newbould is a favorite of mind and worthy of your attention.
6. "Broken Hearted Rendezvous" by Nicole Boggs & the Reel
Last year, we did a song premiere from some new music from Nicole Boggs & the Reel.  The band is back with a new single, and I am thrilled to add it to our playlist.
7. "Time to Move On" by The HawtThorns
Taking COVID into account, The HawtThorns are still relatively new to Nashville. Their new track is a beautiful cover of a Tom Petty classic.
8. "The Troublemaker" by Clint Morgan
We first and last featured Clint Morgan with is 2016 album Scofflaw.  Morgan is based in the Pacific Northwest.  This new album features Watermelon Slim, Kinky Friedman, and The McCrary Sisters. This (almost) title track (the album is called Troublemaker) casts Jesus in the biblically accurate role of Troublemaker.
9. "Alternate Vision" by AP Tobler
Grunge poet AP Tobler just turned sixteen years old. Her debut EP was released two days ago, and  this is the title track.
10. "Old Roads" by Jeff Tuohy
Next up, we have the new single from the forthcoming Hudson Delta - by this singer-songwriter and musician from  New York City.
11. "United Freaks of America" by The Human Fund
Besides the great publicists who consistently send me great music and the direct artist contacts - one of my favorite ways of discovering new music is through the direct or indirect recommendation of fellow musicians - as was the case with this garage punk duo from Connecticut which came to us via a Instragram story from The Problem With Kids Today. .
12. "The Sun Goes on Rising (The St Buryan Sessions)" by Sarah McQuaid
We have  the most recent single from the forthcoming (October 15) double album by this UK singer-songwriter. The album was recorded in a medieval church - and was also captured on video.  We featured an earlier single a few months back.
13. "Keep on Climbin'" by West Side Joe & The Men of Soul
Next up, we have the title track from the new album from the Memphis based band led by veteran musician Joe Schicke.
14. "Revolt Against An Age of Plenty" by The Great Leap Forward
Next up, we have the latest single from the solo moniker of Alan Brown of the Manchester band Big Flame.
15.  "Balafô Douma" by N'famady Kouyaté
And we close with a stunning track from this artist who is a native of Guinea now based in Wales.
