Music City Monday Morning Shuffle - He Tried Mix

Vive Le France!  That's my commentary for today.

This coming Wednesday, Jon Latham and his band were scheduled to play week 2 of the E2TG Residency, however, as some of you may know, Jon has had some pretty major health issues and will not be able to perform. The show will go on.  Jon's hand-picked openers - two of his favorite local songwriters, Nick Nace and Kristen Englenz will be opening as planned, and then some of Jon's friends will be stepping up to fill the bill.  The night will be about Jon, and we will have news about a benefit that is in the works for him.  We're gonna make it a night of music that Jon would approve.

Alright - it is Monday, and that means we are spinning tunes from the Music City Monday playlist... songs with some connection to the Nashville... Let's Go!

"Evermore" by David Olney
"Innocent Heart" by David Olney

Whenever the shuffle brings up two songs in a row by the same artist, from the same album, I wonder if I accidentally didn't shuffle.  When it's David Olney - I tend to not worry about it.  Turns out, I did hit shuffle and the shuffle wanted to hear two in a row from Olney's latest album, Don't Try to Fight It.  Which makes it a good time to remind everyone that David Olney and his band will be playing next week's E2TG Residency with Special Guest Sergio Webb and his band opening.  You will not want to miss this show!

"Postal Cards" by Tom House
"Paradox with Suitcase" by Tom House

Speaking of two in a row... how about two in a row from the amazingly awesome Tom House.  These two songs are from his album Winding Down the Road which was produced by Brock Zeman who also produced David Olney's latest album.  Both Tom House and David Olney are Nashville originals and both have a poetic spirit about them.  The second  track by Tom House is spoken word, and it is wonderful.

"December" by The Buddies

Next up, we have The Buddies who have been playing quite a bit recently. This band was formed in Nashville. Featuring a couple of members of the Chicago band Welcome to Ashley along with members of the Nashville bands Smoking Flowers and Justin and the Cosmics.  Various members of The Buddies played on the album Teardrop Deluxe by Black Vincent - which we featured here a while back. This track is from Country Record.

"Must've Missed Me" by Dean Fields

Next up, we have a track from singer-songwriter Dean Fields. This is an older song of his.  I featured his music quite a bit in the early days of E2TG. He is now based in Nashville.  He has worked with some of the best songwriters and musicians around. His band has included members of Wilco, Bon Iver, and Ryan Adams.

"Hades Pleades" by Parker Millsap

Next up, we have a track from singer-songwriter Parker Millsap has his 2016 album The Very Last Day. I attended the CD Release show for this album last year at The Beast.

"Baby Please Don't Go" (Live) by Webb Wilder and the Beatnecks

Next up, we have Nashville legends Webb Wilder and the Beatnecks with a live version of the blues standard, Baby Please Don't Know - which is most closely associated with Big Joe Williams, and which has been covered countless times.  This version includes a bit about Webb Wilder meeting Big Joe Williams.

"The Admiral" by The Buddies

We close out the shuffle with our second track from The Buddies.  This one is off their self-titled album.
