First of all, I want to thank everyone who made it out last night for the first week of our month-long residency at The 5 Spot - celebrating six years of E2TG. Those who were there were treated to powerhouse set from Mark Robinson Band.
If you didn't make (or even if you did), we will be back every Wednesday in May with a great line-up each week. I'll take a one day break from promoting....
So, it is Thursday, and of late, that has meant Topical Thursday. As I mentioned, for now at least, I am shifting gears for Topical Thursday. Since it is our anniversary month, I dug back into my archives and created a playlist of artists we have featured or at least posted about on E2TG. For clarity, there are artists/bands that either were specially featured or at least artists that I likely only got to hear because of E2TG. The playlist - as this month begins is about 450 songs strong (I picked one some each artist/band). To be honest, some of these artists may not even remember or know that they were part of the E2TG story, but they were nonetheless.
"Core" by Rewpart
First up, is a track from a London based artist who goes by the name Rewpart. This was off an EP called 1/2 that we featured back in 2014. It looks like 1/2 is no longer available.
"Plastic Machine Head" by Zaibatsu
Zaibatsu are a "pregressive" rock band from Italy. We featured their album Zero back in 2015.
"Nothing Ever Lasts That Long" by the British IBM
the British IBM are a great indie rock band from the UK. We featured their album Psychopaths Dream in Black and White in late 2015 into early 2016.
"Greyhound from Reno" by Leland Sundries
Leland Sundries are from Brooklyn. Music for Outcasts came out last year, and I was fortunate to attend the Nashville release show at The Family Wash.
"Coal Mining March" by Jeremiah Tall
Jeremiah Tall is a one-man band from rural Pennsylvania. This track is from his album Waking which came out in 2014. I got to me Jeremiah Tall a little while back at a show at Springwater.
"Mastiff" by Ben Arthur
E2TG has been following Ben Arthur for a few years now. In recent years, he has been working professionally with Matthew of The End Men. Last year, he released Call and Response - an album of songs written in response to other songs, stories, and poems. This was written as a response to a New Yorker story by Joyce Carol Oates. It's one of my favorites from this album.
"The Sky is the Color of Wow" by Tom House
Tom House is a Nashville singer-songwriter who I have become acquainted with over the last couple of years. He writes great songs and has a very unique voice. This is one of my favorite tracks - and it comes from his most recent album Songs Like Dreams...More Like Blood (2015) . The cover photo was taken by Brock Zeman.
"You and Your Sister" by Swain
We just featured this song earlier this week. It was my selection to represent this Sacramento artist and his self-title album.
"Poor Man's Bible" by Mike June
This is the title track from the 2016 album by Mike June. Mike June is from New Jersey, later based in Austin, Texas, and more recently based in Carolina. This album came as a recommendation from Papa Tunes (David Horton) who lead me to so much great music in the early days of the blog.
"Death 1 Day" by Luella
And we close out this first every E2TG Topical shuffle with a favorite of mine and one of the most distinctive and unique voices around. This is a cover of a Blind Willie McTell songs - it was earlier covered by Luella's old band Luella and the Sun.
