Week 3 of the E2TG 7th Anniversary Residency is this coming Thursday. Look for an eclectic mix of of some of my favorite artists/bands in Nashville. Things are going to kick off just after 6:00pm with Brian Milligram, The Coal Men are up next, and Microwave Mountain close out the night. These are some of the best that Nashville has to offer. Admission is just $5.00, Must be 21+ (with valid ID) to get into The 5 Spot. I hope you will join us.
I will be reading another short section of The Drift, and I will have a (very) few copies of my novel for sale. (I had a great sales day last Thursday, and my next order likely will not be here by this Thursday, I hope to have them in time for the residency finale on June 28.
THE DRIFT is still for sale at Amazon.com.
Well, it is Monday, and time for another edition of Music City Monday - where we shuffle up a ginormous playlist of locally sourced music from past and present. Let's jump right into the shuffle:
"The Only One Who Can Break a Heart" by Jen Starsinic
We start things off with a track from a favorite local songwriter. This is a track from her 2014 album, The Flood and the Fire. In addition to being a talented singer-songwriter, Starsinic is a founder and co-director of the non-profit Girl Write Nashville - an organization that "that empowers youth in Nashville through mentorship, songwriting, production, and artistic community." The organization will be having a CD Release show on Saturday afternoon July 7 at The Local (1pm-4pm).
"Fadin' Fast" by Promised Land Sound
Next up, we have another track from the self-titled debut album by alt-country/rock band Promised Land Sound.
"Front Page News" by Chris Watts
Another favorite local singer-songwriter, Chris Watts is a Louisana native with a unique back-story. He was shot while serving with the Louisiana Nation Guard at the Super Dome during Hurricane Katrina. This is a track from his 2016 album The God's Own Truth.
"The Ghost of Music Row" by Chris Gantry
When you talk about "old Nashville" or "Nashville Originals", your conversation better include Chris Gantry. A prolific writer of songs and prose, Gantry has been an active and vital part of the Nashville music scene since the 1960s. He has written over 1000 songs which have been recorded by a who's who of country and popular music of the last part of the 20th Century. Still active, this is a track from his wonderful 2016 album Nashville Rhapsody.
"The Sheriff's Dance" by Tom Mason
Next up, we have another track from The Blue Buccaneer album by Nashville's own Tom Mason. A great songwriter first and foremost, Mason has spent the last several years leading the best pirate band you will ever hear - his band shares its name with this album.
"Whiskey Memory" by Mike Cullison
Mike Cullison is known as the Roadhouse Rambler - which happens to be the name of his 2011 release from which this song is taken. An Oklahoma native, Cullison is a story-teller. His album The Barstool Monologues features songs told from the perspective of the patrons and workers at a bar. Cullison can be found playing solo or with the band Lucky Dogs. Coincidentally, I was just noticing that he posted this exact song on his Facebook profile yesterday. As I mention, my shuffle is random.
