TONIGHT!

Come on out to see Brian Milligram, Darrin Bradbury, and The Coal Men.  As an added bonus, I will be reading a short section from my novel, The Drift.  It is an early show (6-8:30) a low ($5.00) cover, and the food truck will be open if you want to eat a bite. As always in Nashville, there is a ton of stuff going on.  I hope you will make the E2TG Anniversary show - a part of your pre-weekend Summer Solstice plans.  It's the longest day of the year, so don't say you don't have time. \

Remember, next week,we wrap up the month-long residency with Joanna Barbera, Bee Taylor, and Eli Cook!

Okay - let's get right into today's shuffle. It is Thursday.  We always shuffle up our "New Music" playlist on Thursday, and today is no exception.

What you may or may not know is that some time in the past, E2TG would post cover songs on Thursdays. This was before, I started getting so much new music that I needed to add more to focus on the new music coming my way. The reason I mention this today is... well just check out the first four songs of the shuffle....

"Special Friend" by Pat Power

Pat Power - who is 1/2 of the 2016 E2TG Band of the Year, Values Customer, made an album to highlight the songs of some of Ontario's finest songwriters. This is a song written by Alyssa Makow.  That is Jelena Ciric (whose music we have featured) on vocals. The track references Tommy Foolhardy.  Like a lot of what Valued Customer does, I only kind of understand what is going on. Like almost all of what V.C. does, I love it. The album is called Ontario Gothic Vol. 1.

"Kashmir" by In the Light of Led Zeppelin

It is not often that I include a tribute band in my shuffle - like maybe never.. but I just had to include this track from Pompeii Sessions  - which is  a cover of a Led Zeppelin song - originally included on Led Zep's Physical Graffiti album. The band does do not-run-of -the-mill/by the book covers - rather, they re-imagine songs from Led Zeppelin drawing in influences of some of the later music of Robert Plant and Jimmy Page.

"History Will Absolve Me" by Pat Power

One more from the Ontario Gothic album.  This is Pat Power covering his Valued Customer partner - Ugggy (Ugggy was the 2017 E2TG Artist of the Year).

"Ball of Confusion" by Poptone

Fourth and final cover song in the shuffle.  Here, we have Poptone from their self-titled debut which was released June 8.  This is a cover of a 1970 hit by The Temptations - written  by Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong.  More accurately, perhaps, it is a cover of Love and Rocket's cover of The Temptations songs. Poptone  features Daniel Ash and Kevin Haskins  (Both of Bauhaus, Tones on Tail, and Love and Rocket) along with Haskins' daughter Diva Dompe.

"Catch" by The Elation

Our first- non-cover song of the shuffle comes from Cork Ireland band The Elation with a track from their release Clickbait.  Really digging this band.

"Can't Stop the Waves" by Caroline Cotter

Next up, we have another track from Home on the River - the gorgeous album by Portland, Maine singer-songwriter Caroline Cotter. UPDATE:  I just saw that Caroline Cotter is one of 4 finalist for the No Depression Singer-Songwriter award and will be performing at this year's Freshgrass Festival!

"No More Parties" by MIS+RESS

We closer things out with a ttrack from MIS+RESS - the self-tilted album by this project - which is the brain child of Brian Wenckebach - who is formerly of the band Elika - who we featured back in the early days of E2TG.
