Featured Friday Morning Shuffle - Totally Lonely Mix

All of this happened a long time ago when the world was a very different place. Of course, none of us knew that at the time.

Well, it is Friday! The end of another week of shuffles. I spent last night from six to after eleven, at The 5 Spot being reminded of what a great town this is for live music.  Started with the always awesome Jon Byrd filling in for Chuck Mead - and playing with Chuck's band, The Grassy Knoll Boys. Chuck Mead was doing stuff for the Grand Ole Opry at the Ryman, and he showed up in time to do one or two songs.

The late show started with Zach Schmidt with Jackie Berkley and a great band that included the rhythm section from Buck N Stuff (Cameron Carrus and Lemuel Hayes). Finishing the night was Nick Dittmeier and the Sawdusters. I can't believe it has taken me this long to see Nick and his band, but I'm sure glad I was there last night.

Let's jump right into the shuffle for this Friday.

"Today" by Musta Paraati

First up, we have our second listen to Black Parade - the first album in 34 years for the Finnish post-punk band Musta Paraati (whose name means Black Parade). The album is due out next Friday, so we can't show you a video for this song, but they have released a video for "The Leader" - the first single from the album.

"Margot on the Ocean" by K Michelle DuBois

Next we have another second listen. This time it is Atlanta singer-songwriter K Michelle DuBois from her album Harness which was released today.  DuBois is previously part of the 90s band Ultrababyfat and more recently she was part of Parsons Rocket Project - a shoegaze/space rock band. In her career, she has toured with PJ Harvey and Pavement and taken part in the Warped Tour.  This is a great sounding record, and I look forward to writing much more about it.

"Totally Lonely" by Justin and the Cosmics

Nashville's Justin and the Cosmics return to the shuffle for the second time this week with another track from PERF. This is a live concert favorite of mine - that gives front-man Justin Collins the opportunity to do what he does.

"In Regard to Flight" by Rich Krueger

Next up, we have the first of two tracks from NOWThen the forthcoming album by Chicago singer-songwriter Rich Krueger. Krueger is a recent Kerrville Folk Festival award winner. He is a recent "discovery" for me, and a brilliant songwriter. This song is  already a favorite of mine from the new album - due two weeks from today.  Krueger has one of those voices that I could listen to all day long.  Since we don't yet have a video for this track, we picked another recent video from Krueger for a song about someone named "Don"... hmm...

"Pipeline Screaming" by Rude Audio

London electronic music collective Rude Audio just released their new EP Rude Redux earlier this week, and we are already to the final track to feature. The group are known for their fantastic underground parties and for their audio work with other artists. I can't say that I listen to a ton of electronic music or know much about it, but I can tell you that I have really enjoyed this release. I hope to keep in touch and hear more music from Rude Audio down the road.

"Mercy" by AJ Ghent J-Ent

Next, we have our second Atlanta artist in the shuffle. This is the final track for us - from The Neo Blues Project by AJ Ghent (J-Ent). This is rich soulful indie rock music with elements of the blues. A great song and a great release.

"Kenny's (It's Always Christmas in this Bar)" by Rich Krueger

We close with our second track of the day from NOWThen  - this is not a Christmas song, but I may use it on my Christmas show for Double Shot - if I end up doing one this year. It is the first release from the new album, so we do have "a" video - but the official video will be debuted at the album release show which is scheduled for one week from tomorrow at Gallery Cabaret as part of Krueger's regular residency.  By the way, NOWThen features an all-star cast of guest musicians including Robbie Fulks, John Fullbright, Peter Stampfel, and Gary Lucas (of Captain Beefheart).
