Wild Wednesday Morning Shuffle - Necessary Girl Mix

All of this happened a long time ago when the world was a very different place. Of course, none of us knew that at the time.

E2TG September 2018  (coming soon!)

I have often written about $2 Tuesday hosted by Derek Hoke at The 5 Spot. It is consistently great fun and even you don't know the performers, it is consistently great music. In case you are wondering, I am not getting paid to say this, but they do let me pay just $2 admission to see 4 or 5 quality bands/artists, and pay $2 for Yazoo beers.   Last night, started with Ryan Sobb (I'm going to see saying it), he is one of my favorite "new" songwriters in Nashville. Next was Lauren Anderson (with Taylor Kropp playing guitar) - I had never heard Anderson, but I really dug it.  Next was Derek Hoke himself - as always a solid set of music with the rhythm section of Mark Robertson (Legendary Shack Shakers, Eskimos, and Prayer Flag) and Steve Latanation (Agent Orange, Stone Cupid).  Next was Austin based, south Louisiana born Rod Melancon with great band.  I've been following his music closely and it was great seeing him live and in person.  I was tired and didn't get to see much of the late night band, Truett, but what I heard sounded great.  As always, DJ Tim Hibbs kept the music going between live acts.

It's Wednesday, and I'm a bit tired from last night, but I must push on.  As we do on Wednesdays, we have a shuffle from all of the songs saved to my phone. We call it "Wild Wednesday" - let's shuffle!

"Necessary Feeling" by Good Field

We start things with a track from Surface Tension by Austin band Good Field. The album was released earlier this year, and it is still in our "New Music" playlist.  Great stuff.
"A Beautiful Girl" by Ubiquity Machine

Next up, we have one from deep in the E2TG archives. Howard Rabach and Daniel Marsh (Ubiquity Machine) are from the D.C. area.  Their music is inspired by much of the music I grew up listening to.  Howard was one of the first people I met on-line when I first started writing E2TG back in 2011.  E2TG started on the site Posterous and Howard had a blog on their. I finally got to meet him a few years later when he came to Nashville with The Grey A. This song was included on the first and only E2TG compilation. Great to hear it again today.

"Caustic Creeper" by Cup

Next, another track from Hiccup by the Brooklyn band, Cup. Great stuff.

"Passin' Thru Dallas" by Danny Sandock

Next up, we have an older song from singer-songwriter Danny Sandock. This is a track from his 1st album Back to Unreality.  Sandock recently released his 5th CD Throwing Me for a Loop is out now, and you can expect to hear more from that soon.

"Tramp Stamp" by Steve Poltz

This is a cool one.  It is singer-songwriter Steve Poltz doing a song he wrote with Ben Arthur as part of the Songcraft Presents program.  The show is hosted by Rob Reinhart of Acoustic Cafe - our old friend Matthew Hendershot of The End Men does the video for that show. The song was written in about three hours at SXSW a couple of years ago from a title suggested by Ben Arthur.

"Win Your Love" by The Defeated County

Next, our friends from St. Louis return to the shuffle with a track from Bar Tabs and Baby Names. I really love this song.

"Blue Yodel #6" by Wanda Jackson

Next, we have the Queen of Rockabilly music Wanda Jackson from her 2011 album The Party Ain't Over - which was produced by Jack White. This is the last track on the album, and is a cover of a Jimmy Rodgers song first recorded in 1929.  Jackson's peak was in the 1950s and 60s, but she is still going strong.

"Traveling in Style" by Tim Henderson

And we close things out with another track from the late Tim Henderson - this from Volume 6 of his legacy collection box set - called In His Eyes.  This volume features live recordings.
