Well, Americana Fest 2018 is going strong, and I will have a full report once it is over and I have processed everything. There is a ton of stuff going on - some amazing shows and performances by a ton of great artists. Some are official, some are sanctioned, and some are unofficial. I cannot even begin to advise what to see - I am barely deciding for myself. Whether you are a festival registrant or wristband holder or not, there is even more great music going on all over Nashville than usual. If you are here - make sure you catch some of it.
I did want to alert you to one event which you may have missed. You may recall earlier in the year, we helped spread the word about the Magnolia Road events. Well, the wonderful people behind that event have something special planned for Saturday (all day) at one of my favorite hangs - Dee's County Cocktail Lounge in Madison. It features some of the great artists from the earlier show - plus other incredible artists - including some E2TG favorites. Details after the jump:

with the deep grooves of the South. It’s like a whole week festival in one day

Allen Thompson (Nashville, TN) East
Nashville Hippy Folk/Americana singer/songwriter and local Nashville favorite
never fails to deliver deep from his heart and soul whether solo, with his band
or as a guest artist.
Amelia

cool into her Sassy Americana. Her music has been described as hard
rocking-folkin-alt-art country. Amelia says her songs “are the stories of life

Ben Sparaco and The New Effect (Nashville,
TN) formed in 2017 when Florida-born singer,
songwriter, and guitarist began playing with Berklee College of Music graduates
drummer Anthony Quirk and bassist Adam Discipio. Ben and the band have
maintained a massive touring schedule, cutting their teeth playing coast to
coast in clubs, festivals, and theaters. In Sparaco’s recent songwriting, he
has started branching out from his southern rock roots, showing indie rock and
pop influences, evident on the new EP “Greetings, from Ben Sparaco and The
New Effect,” released June 2018.
Chris Wilson (Indianapolis, IN) U.S.-based singer/songwriter Chris Wilson has been
compared to artists like Ray LaMontagne and Glen Hansard. Wilson’s
style is a mix of indie folk and Americana, tied together with big melodies and
raw emotion. His new album “Downfall,” released August 17, 2018 showcases
Wilson’s soulful voice with inspired instrumentation and autobiographical
lyrics. Downfall also includes the song ‘Lower,’ which was recently featured in
the Lifetime Network Movie Christmas in Mississippi.
Demi
Marriner (UK) Riding shotgun alongside her unique, outstanding
songwriting are Demi’s powerful, emotive live performances. Demi’s confidence
and professionalism on stage sparkle even more than her guitar strap and
matching capo. Whether she’s pouring out her heart in an intimate solo shows or
kicking down the saloon doors with her incredible backing band, Demi knows how
to impress.
Don Gallardo (Nashville, TN) Gallardo weaves his 1970’s Laurel Canyon
influences into a modern roots-Americana epic. He has his
heart in the East Nashville sound but his California roots are never far
away. “A singer-songwriter
that is one of the Country and Americana scene's true journeymen. Artist You
Need To Know. - Rolling Stone.
His
new album “Still Here” has been receiving critical acclaim and air play
throughout the US, UK and Europe since it’s release April 27, 2018.
Elles Bailey (Bristol UK) has a talent for crafting and seamlessly
weaving rootsy blues, country, and soulful rock, with a contemporary
edge. Her music draws on these roots and ingredients, blending and
transcending them, with each song given a unique flavor and texture by Elles’
unique, super-smoky, utterly unforgettable voice. Blues Matters dubbed her “The
Voice of the Blues.”
Jeff Crosby & The Refugees (Nashville,
TN) Idaho-born Jeff Crosby is a critically
acclaimed singer-songwriter. Crosby has won multiple awards for his
song-writing including an Eco Arts award in 2013 for his song "We All Know
The Words" and has had multiple songs featured on the hit FX series
"Sons of Anarchy." Crosby appeals to fans of all the great
songwriters from Dylan to Van Zandt to Earle. They’ll be performing songs from
his new release, “Postcards From Magdalena.”
Jeff
Mix
Jenny Van West (Portland, ME) Singer-songwriter Jenny Van West released “Happiness
To Burn” in the spring of 2018. The album is the follow-up to her
award-winning album “Something Real.” Van West is also founder of the Maine
Immigrant Musical Instrument Project and the International Open Mic in
Portland, Maine. A soothing yet riveting stage presence with a voice that
engenders depth, compassion and love, Van West has the ability to write songs
that fuse folk, rock, swing and country and sound like instant classics.
Lauren Farrah (Nashville, TN) Nashville-based singer-songwriter Lauren Farrah has
a sound built upon melody and muscle, full of electric guitars, stomping
percussion, and the punch and plea of her voice. Tracked at Loud Recording with
the help of talent including Ryan Wariner (Jewel) and Paul Defiglia (The Avett
Brothers), her debut single "Fighting Spirit" will be released later
this year.
Mike Younger (Nashville, TN) Americana
rocker and reclusive veteran of the music business, he rose out of the
streets to record with artists like Rodney Crowell, Jim Dickinson,
and Levon Helm. His music is
deeply rooted in the traditions of folk, blues and country music, the tone and
rhythms of this work resonate equally with 4H-ers and farmers, townies and
roustabouts, motorcyclists and equestrians, and rockers and folkies alike. Younger’s
most recent album, “Little Folks Like You And Me” debuted last July in the Top
5 Most Added Albums to Americana Radio.
Rich Mahan (Nashville, TN) Roots music
Buddha, his music conjures a similar vibe to Delbert McClinton, Warren
Zevon, Hayes Carll, Little Feat, Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen,
and his favorite, The Grateful Dead, with influences from 70’s FM Rock and Pop
radio, as well as Outlaw Country from that same era. He is recording a
follow up his to highly acclaimed debut solo release “Blame Bobby Bare.” His
new album “Hot Chicken Wisdom” is slated for release early 2019.
Rorey Carroll (Nashville, TN) With musical roots in the folk and bluegrass
world, she has developed her sound into something unique and bold, pulling from
Rock/Americana/Folk influences. Carroll’s songwriting delivers the honest
subtlety of living the life of a gypsy while still longing for the simplicity
of small town happiness. Her sound rolls in low and powerful with the feeling
of a Tarantino film for the ears. A new kind of “Country Western Folk-n-Roll.”
Sarah Burton (Austin, TX) Rooted in folk, and skirting rock and country,
Burton’s music is a collage of her adventures, collected over a decade of
touring across North America. Her songs have made their way to the big screen
and earned radio play in Canada, the US and Europe. Her new album, Give
Me What I Want comes out this October, and is raw Americana. Inspired
by her recent move to Terlingua, TX - Give Me What I Want tells
classic stories in a modern age; from love and lust, to enchantment and
disenchantment, and that constant search for fulfillment.
Triggers & Slips (Salt
Lake City, UT) music is steeped in the
psychology of relationships. Like so much country music that came before, his
originates in personal mistakes and a stepped-on heart. Singer-Songwriter Morgan Snow is like an old country song living in the modern
age. His songs "hit you right in the gut." With a voice that has been
described as "pure soul" with hints of familiarity, it is haunting
and powerful and with no comparison to pinpoint. It is the one thing you won’t
forget. Some of his songs hurt, some make you laugh at him or yourself, but
what is shared from night to night is a connection, a new relationship waiting
to be revisited and rekindled time and time again.

Walter Salas-Humara (Flagstaff, AZ) "Whether mining shoegaze, folk balladry,
Caribbean sounds, grunge, or the blues, he exhibits a knack for weaving
borrowed stylistics into his own broad and still-broadening aesthetic brand,
transforming heritage into legacy, debt into benefaction - interpreting the
past with an ear for the future.” - No
