The Featured Friday Playlist is back! I am mostly likely going to change up how I present the music on the playlist, but the most important thing is give it a listen. I always try to pick a diverse collection of new and recent music. I am sure there will be things you will like, and some that won't be your cup of tea. It's all okay. If you feel inclined - please follow the playlist.
By the way, I sort of (but just sort of) lied earlier this week. I said I was just going to move forward and not worry about "catching up" on what I missed while I was out. That is basically true, but this week's playlist does include a few choice tracks that came out during my January time away. I am also not going to worry about explaining what is brand new and what has been out a couple of weeks. If it comes to me, I will say something.
And I am overexplaining again. 😀
As usual it is a collection of old friends and old favorites plus some new (to me) music.
Enjoy!
Featured Friday Playlist
Featured Friday (Songs 1-10)
"My Favorite Goodbye" by David Olney and Anana Kaye (single from Whispers and Sighs - 2021)
The first single from the forthcoming album Whispers and Sighs (coming in March) has been released. It is some of the late David Olney's final recordings - working with the insanely talented Anana Kaye and Irakli Gabriel. The song is absolutely wonderful.
"Bad With Money" by Tim Carroll (from For You - 2020)
The prolific Tim Carroll released two batches of songs he wrote in 2020. This songs comes from an EP he released at the end of 2020. The also released an 18 song album called Work to Do a week after.
"Dada Bois" by Aaron Lee Tasjan (from Tasjan! Tasjan! Tasjan! - 2021)
ALT's brilliant new album Tasjan! Tasjan! Tasjan! is out today. By my estimation it is possibly his best work to date (and he his discography is filled with brilliant music), and it is certainly his most personal. I fully expect to be talking about this album come the end of 2021 and beyond.
"Patriocrisy" by The Smoking Flowers (from Patriocrisy - 2021)
The title track from the recently released new EP from E2TG favorites The Smoking Flowers. The duo have somethings to say - and boy, do they say them.
"Quarantine Not Quarantined" by Graduates Rise
Graduates Rise has been on my radar for sometime, and this wonderful single - which was actually released back in November - is, I think, a great jumping in point. The Nashville based punk band features Dr. Cyncorrigable and our old friend Gray Jacks (The Gray A) plus at least on this track, Gray's old bandmate Bingham Barnes (Glossary) plus Rollum Haas. The video is fantastic.
"Blind" by Palm Ghosts (Single from the forthcoming Lifeboat Candidate - 2021)
Palms Ghosts is Nashville's post punk/new wave band featuring Joseph Lekkas and Benjamin Douglas. It is great hearing friends make music inspired by my favorite music of my young days - and doing it in a brilliant and decidedly modern way. This is the first taste of their next album - due in March.
"Dresden" by Dingzui (from Italics - 2021)
Coincidently, I was introduced to Dingzui following a David Olney (who led off this playlist) show. Nicholas Miller - who was part of this band before embarking on a epic journey to far off lands - introduced himself after an Olney show. We featured the band's previous release. They are back with some new music - via an album called Italics which was released last week.
"Scarlet Letter" by Tayls (from the forthcoming album Have You Ever? I've Always - 2021)
In 2020 - the brilliant Tayls released a series of - and later an EP of cover songs. 2021 is going to be all about originals. The debut full-length album - Have you Ever? I've Always is due out later this year This is the first single and finds the band - led by Taylor Cole - at their finest.
"Mantis" by The Danbury Lie (single - 2021)
Long time E2TG favorite The Danbury Lie are back with a new single. Now based in the Pacific Northwest and originally from Connecticut. The Danbury Lie has consistedly been making brilliant, original music for a decade or more.
"Limit of Love" by This Frontier Need Heroes (from Go With the Flow - 2021)
We have been anticipating the release of Go With the Flow - the new album from Brad Lauretti (aka This Frontier Needs Heroes - for some time. It finally came out a couple of weeks back. Great music, wonderful songs.
