Here in Nashville - it is like Mother Nature is not sure what season it is supposed to be. After a week of snow and ice and frigid temperatures, yesterday and today have been near or just above 70. I am not going to complain about the warmer weather, but I am also not going to take for granted that it is still winter and that chances are we are going to have more cold weather ahead.
But, indecisiveness is what is on my mind. I can understand that tendency. To me, the crux of the problem is the conflict between confidence, courage, cautiousness, and forethought. "He who hestiates is lost" but my head says, "he who acts without thought lives to regret it". I don't know where the balance between those two is... but I am aware of missed opportunities because I delayed on something and someone else acted first. But, I am also aware of times, I acted in haste and regretted the action.
So, I guess to go back to the weather which prompted this post, I should just take each day, each moment has it comes and make the best decisions I know how to make.
Featured Friday (Songs 22-26):'
22. "Now Your Life's Gone" by Keith Mosfet
First up today, we have a Canadian/Irish singer-songwriter with his most recent single. Good stuff.
23. "Dying on the Vine" by Unify Separate
Next up, we have a collaboration between a Scottish singer (Andrew Montgomery - of Geneva) and a Swedish synth musician (Leo Josefsson - of Lowe) - their latest single deals with the public nature of life in the modern age.
24. "Lights of the City" by Distant Voices
Distant Voices is the solo moniker of London-based Valdis Stekelis, and the song is the debut single from this new project, and it is a most impressive debut.
25. "Owl in the Parlour" by Cathal Coughlan
Next up, the new single from this UK artist of Microdisney and The Fatima Mansions. A really great track.
26. "Retrograde" by Goosechase
And, we close out this segment of music with a track from the debut EP from Denison, Texas based singer-songwriter Goosechase. The EP was self-produced and sounds fantastic.
Featured Friday Playlist
Wednesday Morning Shuffle
"They're Feelings, Not Reasons" by Gold Hick (from Formed at Depth - 2020)
Gold Hick is one half of the Norwich band Broads who we have featured several times.
"Where The Raven Flies" by MONO INC. (from The Book of Fire - 2020)
Next up, we have a track from this German goth rock band - from an album we featured last year.
"It's Sad" by Angela Burns (from So That You Can Feel Better - 2015)
Angela Burns is a great songwriter from Austin. Hard to believe this album will be six years old this year. I could not find any video that I could positively identify with her - so nothing is included in the Video Playlist, but look her up.
"The Pillow" by Circulatory System (from Circulatory System - 2001)
From a reissue of the debut album from the Elephant 6 band from Athens, Georgia that was released last year. The band was formed by Will Cullen Hart after The Olivia Tremor Control disbanded.
"Little Stuff" by C.W. Ayon (from What They Say - 2019)
Next up, we have a track from this one-man band based in New Mexico.
"My Favorite Picture" by Cameron Carrus (from The End of the World, Vol. 2 - 2020)
America's favorite bassist (Tim Carroll, Buck N Stuff, Carrus & Kurtz etc.) from the second volume of solo bass recordings made and released in the early days of the pandemic.
"Haluun Pois" by Bad Sauna (from Olen rikas sillä minulla on teidät - 2020)
This Finnish band was one of my favorite "discoveries" of 2020. Rocking tunes.
"Shake a Tail Feather" by James & Bobby Purify (The Pure Sounds of the Purifys - 1968)
The R&B singing duo are best known for their version of the Dan Penn and Spooner Oldham song "I'm Your Puppet". This is their cover of a much covered 1963 song. Maybe you've heard it done by The Cheetah Girls in the movie Chicken Little... or not.
