The year is winding down. Coming up tomorrow on Ear to the Ground radio, I will be presenting part 1 of my year-end special featuring some of my favorite music released in 2021.
Then, Thursday, I will be presenting the 2nd Annual Seasons Greetings from Nashville holiday spectacular. (okay, fine, I didn't call it that last year but whatever). Some great holiday tunes by Nashville artists past and present.
Next Tuesday, will be the first annual Ear to the Ground holiday special - some of the great new holiday releases which have come my way.
Now, it's time for today's Music City Monday shuffle
Featured Friday Playlist
"Keeping My Distance" by Rylan Brooks (from If Wishes Were Horses - 2021)
One of my favorite albums from earlier this year. I almost met these guys at one of the first shows I attended this spring. I think I was in the background of one of their pictures. lol
"Gonna Get My Way" by Track Dogs (feat. Barefoot Movement) (from Kansas City out Groove - 2018)
The appearance of Nashville's Barefoot Movement on this track by the Madrid based band - makes it Music City Monday eligible.
"Shine a Light on Me" by Don Gallardo (from In the Name of Good Intentions (ft. Lilly Winwood)- 2019)
A great album that I feel was underheard. E2TG favorite Don Gallardo collaborating with the great Lilly Winwood (the daughter of Steve).
"Heartbeat" by Bebe Buell (from Hard Love - 2021)
To me, there are a lot of things that make Nashville an ideal city to live in as a music fan. One is the wealth of music history in the heads of some of the people who you can run into any given and even get to see perform on occasion. There is hardly a figure in late 20th Century rock and roll that Bebe Buell doesn't have great stories about. Her own music conveys that history in a contemporary setting.
"Awkward" by Tayls (from Have You Ever? I've Always - 2021)
During 2020, Tayls' leader Taylor Cole released a series of wonderful cover songs. 2021 saw the release of several singles leading up to the band's full-length debut album. One of the city's best and most unique bands.
"Buck" by Thirdface (from Do It With a Smile - 2021)
Lest you forget or don't know that Nashville has a punk/hardcore scene - I present Thirdface from their 2021 release.
"Is It Love?" by Foster & Lloyd (from Version of the Truth - 1990)
We often tout Bill Lloyd as Nashville's king of power pop (and rightly so), but lest anyone forget - for a time, he and Radney Foster were a force in mainstream country music - drawing on the same pop music instincts to make some great records.
"Mental Block" by The Ratz (from Return to Elliston Square, 1979-1989 - 2008)
From that seminal compilation of Nashville 80s rock - we have the b-side of the 1981 single by the pioneering band featuring Joe Blanton (The Enemy, Royal Court of Chine, The Bluefields) and Les Shields (Raging Fire).
"Debutante Ball" by India Ramey (from Shallow Graves - 2020)
From her fantastic 2020 release, we have a track from India Ramey.
"Aging in Place" by Dick Aven (from Spin So Long - 2021)
The newest song in today's shuffle - from earlier this month - we have a track by Franklin based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist.
"Out of Place" by Sour Ops (from X - 2021)
Sour Ops released this gem of an album earlier this year. Led by Price Harrison who has had a major role in both the Nashville and Memphis music scenes.
