My heart goes out to everyone affected by this weekend's tornados in Tennessee and especially in Kentucky. Thinking about something like this happening just two week's before Christmas... especially for those who lost loved ones means that the holiday season is changed forever...
I know first hand how losses around this time of year change things forever. But what I am learning is that the change isn't permanent. It may sound like I just contradicted myself, but bear with me... last year, I thought I would just want to avoid the holidays all together. I actually felt that way before I lost loved ones in December - just because of changes in life. Where I am at now, which may just be a point on a journey - is that I can chose to redefine what the holiday's mean. And celebrate or not on my own terms.
A long way of saying, that I know for some, this year's holiday's will be difficult, and my message for anyone dreading the holiday's is to let go of any expectations (your own or others) and just make this time the best it can be.

Lake Street Dive are a popular band that formed in 2004 in Boston. This, their fifth studio album, was recorded in Nashville and produced by Dave Cobb.
"Roll Train Roll" by Tony Joe White (from The Shine - 2010)
I was fortunate enough to see the late great Tony Joe White perform at Americana Fest about a year before he sadly passed away at his home in Leiper's Fork. This is a track from his 2010 album.

I (legally) downloaded this concert from Springsteen's River tour, and I have been enjoying having tracks come up ever since. We still have 14 tracks to go from the live recording. This was a ten minute version of the penultimate song on the 1980 double album.

Great to be reminded of this wonderful album which came out earlier this year. It is a covers album by Washington DC based singer-songwriter Domenic Cicala. The album features duets with singers like BettySoo, Jaimee Harris, and more covering songs by Dave Alvin & Rosie Flores, Fred Eaglesmith, Barry & Robin Gibb, and more. This song features Janine Wilson - a rock artist from D.C. covering a song written by the great Townes Van Zandt.
