Trending Thursday Morning Shuffle - Angels and Devils Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

It is Thursday.  Two more days this week, and then I am taking a few days off to recharge my batteries.

We have a ton of great new music ready to go and ready to be queued up - so let's try to make some room!

"Lost My Place in a Small Town" by The Campfire Flies

First  up, we jump back into the Sparks Like Little Stars album by The Campfire Flies (the first of two tracks in today's shuffle). I am really enjoying this album, and it appears the random shuffle function is too. Nice when that works out like that.  This is the New Jersey group that features several veteran musicians from bands like The Cucumbers, Speed the Plough, and the Thousand Pities.

"Disgrace" by Your 33 Black Angels

Next up, we have our first listen to Eternities 1 - the seventh long playing album from the Brooklyn group - known as Y33BA. They describe their selves as a noisepop freakshow. I have been intrigued by this album since it hit my inbox, but this was my first chance to listen, and I dig what I'm hearing. Much more to come.

"Not Falling" by Mark Mathews

Next up, we have another track from Fizzy Beasts by UK singer-songwriter Mark Mathews. Mathews is described as one of the hardest working solo artists in London, and he has performed for and with the likes of Frank Turner and Jeremy Corbyn.

"Supermarket" by Sonic Reducers

Careful listeners will note that we have featured this song before, but that was the pre-album single release, and this is the track from the self-titled album by the punk band based in Ithaca, New York home of Cornell University. If you follow my social media religiously (which really why would you not!) you will note that I was in a band with Sonic Reducers member Luke Slomba for one day three years ago.

"Crescent City Angels" by Adam Carroll

Lots of Angels and Devils in this shuffle - hence the subtitle. This one is about some angels from New Orleans. It is a track from Adam Carroll's wonderful latest  album called I Walked in Them Shoes.  Carroll is currently on tour with his wife Chris. He has that rare but special quality of songwriting - a laid back, no-nonsense style that belies the brilliance of the songs and music.

"I'm Not Changing My Mind" by The Campfire Flies

Next, we have our second track from The Campfire Flies. Check them out if you get the chance, it is wonderful music from some talented folks.

"If You Ain't the Devil" by Shane Dwight Blues Band

Yen and Yang - we've had Your 33 Black Angeles and Crescent City Angels - now we have a song about someone who may very well be the devil.  More dirty rockin' blues from Nashville's Shane Dwight. Really loved this track (and the whole album).

"This Summer's Sleeper" by Meghan Hayes

Next up, we have another track from Seen Enough Leavers by Nashville's own and E2TG favorite Meghan Hayes. The album features some incredible talent. The album was produced by Dex Green who has worked with people like The Great Peacock, Aaron Lee Tasjan, Elizabeth Cook, and more. The album was born out of  painful chapter of life - and it is an album of triumph.  You can pre-order the album now - it is due out officially one week from tomorrow.
"Soul Song" by Kim Thompsett

Next up, another track from The Hollows by English folk artist Kim Thompsett.  I love crisp and lovely folk music like that. So evocative and moving.

"Life of Riley" by Grant Farm

We close with some high energy rootsy rock from Colorado band Grant Farm. The band is led by Tyler "The Champ" Grant who is a National Flatpicking Champion whose many credits include Adrienne Young and Abigail Washburn. A great way to close out the shuffle.
