Last night's CD Release show for Meghan Hayes - Seen Enough Leavers was a real celebration. Things started out with short sets from some amazing local writers: Megan Palmer, Fawn Larson, Kira Small, Meg Braun, and Kristen Englenz. Followed by Meghan Hayes - who was backed by an incredible band - featuring Megan Palmer, Annie McCue, Justin Amaral, and Cameron Carrus. She was joined on a song each by Mando Saenz and Tim Carroll.
The music was wonderful, and the joyful spirit - celebrating an album that is one of my favorite of the year so far.
By the way, I realized after posting, that yesterday marked the 8th anniversary of the start of E2TG. I remain humbled and overwhelmed by the incredible friends I have made along this journey and the wonderful music that I probably would never have heard if I had not started this blog.
Now, it's time to move back into the our new music playlist and today's "Trending Thursday" shuffle!
"A Murmuration of Starlings On Blackpool Pier" by The Membranes
First up, we have he first of two tracks from that forthcoming new album from UK post punk legends - The Membranes called What Nature Gives… Nature Takes Away. Previously, we featured "A Murder of Crows". Today, we have "A Murmuration of Starlings on Blackpool Pier". The album does have a recurring theme of nature, but as far as I can tell, these are the only two songs about collections of bird species.
"Beauty Lies Within" by Beauty in Chaos (feat. Johnny Innovina)
Next up, we have another track from Finding Beauty in Chaos. The album is a project of Michael Ciravolo (of Human Drama and Gene Loves Jezebel). This track features Ciravolo's bandmate in Human Drama - Johnny Innovina. For those who don't know, Human Drama are a Los Angeles based Alternative Rock band that formed in 1985 - they originally formed in New Orleans as The Models. Ciravolo and Innovina were both founding members of the band).
"Still Tryin' To Believe" by Peter Rogan
Next up, we have the title track from singer-songwriter Peter Rogan - whose album features Will Kimbrough and Phil Madeira - who are both members of Emmylou Harris' Red Birt Boys.
"Fly Away" by Ashleigh Flynn and The Riveters
Next up, we have another track from the self-titled album by Ashleigh Flynn and The Riveters. Love this album.
"I'm Getting Tired of This Place" by Pete Berwick
Next up, we have another track from Island by singer-songwriter Pete Berwick. This is one of my favorite albums of the year. I am so happy to have discovered Berwick's music through this album. Word is - he is working on the follow-up album already.
"All You Need Is Soul" by Josh Hyde
Next up, we have our first listen to Into the Soul by singer-songwriter Josh Hyde. We previously featured his album The Call of the Night - a couple of years ago. Like the previous album, this one was produced by Joe V. McMahan. The album is a rich gumbo of Louisiana music.
"Snow Monkey" by The Membranes
Our second track from The Membranes - continues the nature recurring theme - but moves from groups of birds to a snow monkey.
"John's Song" by The Campfire Flies
Next up, we have another track from Sparks Like Little Stars - by the New Jersey supergroup that features our old friend Deena (of The Cucumbers)/ The John in this track refers to John Baumgartner (of Speed the Plough). It is a lovely song from a lovely album.
"Give Me More Lies" by I Ya Toyah
We close with another track from Code Blue by Chicago-based one woman army - I Ya Toyah. The album adds some techno-industrial sounds to our shuffle .
