E2TG 6/4/2021 - Featured Friday - Battleship Chains Mix (Paper Piano Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

We've reached the end of another week and that means that it is time for another Featured Friday Playlist.

Thanks to everyone who has followed the Playlist on Spotify - it means a lot.  This week's list is about the same length as last week - I think I have hit upon a good size for the list. Hopefully, the bands and artists will cooperate with their release schedules. (Just kidding).

Let's go!

    Featured Friday Playlist

Featured Friday Playlist (Songs 1-11)

1. "Battleship Chains" by Dirt Reynolds
Fresh off their triumphant set of Uncle Tupelo songs at last Sunday's Nashville Helping Nashville event, Dirt Reynolds return to the Playlist with their new single - which is a cover of a song by one of the bands of my younger days - Georgia Satellites. Chris Watts leads the band - but it is a solid lineup through and through - with Ryan Dishen, Jason Paradise, and Drew Kohl.
2. "Paper Piano" by Afton Wolfe
Afton Wolfe's new album Kings for Sale will be out in one week. This is the second single from that album. I'm looking forward to seeing Afton at tomorrow afternoons Bands & Boil at The Grove - hosted by Runner of the Woods. Afton will kick off the event at 2:30.
3. "Somebody to Hold" by Brett Ryan Stewart & Amelia White
Did somebody say Amelia White AND Brett Ryan Stewart?  Whoever said that is a smart person.  The pair of E2TG favorites just released an EP called 11A.M. and this is the lead track.
4 Pyramus and Thisbe" by Cold Equations
Speaking of Drew Kohl (like I was when I was talking about Dirt Reynolds), his Cold Equations project just dropped the forth single from an upcoming release. I have been digging this new direction from a songwriter I have been a fan of for approaching 7 years.
5. "Much Obliged" by Bob Walkenhorst
Only in the world of music does it make any sense that a friend from Norway helps me keep up with singer and songwriter from one of my favorite bands (who were from Kansas City). So, thanks to Rune for turning me on to this new release from Bob Walkenhorst who I first heard about when he was leading the Rainmakers back in the mid to late 1980s.
6. "You're Swimming" by Victims of The New Math
Every week, just after I finalize the playlist, I remember or find out about a new release. This one, though, got in just under the wire. It is a new EP from the one man band based in Phoenix, Arizona and led by Thomas Young.
7. "Pink Haired Lady" by Danny Henry
When Danny Henry played my birthday show a few years back, he was en route from his home state of Connecticut to Los Angeles to follow his passion for music and entertainment. I imagine he has had his shares of ups and downs in the time his has been in L.A., but the results I have seen have been remarkable. This is his latest single. Danny is one of the most positive people I have met and probably the best pure entertainer that I have ever encountered.
8. "Before I Get to Turn Around" by T. Buckley
Next up, we have a new single from a Canadian roots-rock singer-songwriter which is out now on Fallen Tree Records.  We got hold of his because we posted another Fallen Tree artist 100 Mile House earlier in the week.
9. "Party" by Kenneth Whalum
Next up, we have the first single from the forth-coming Broken Land 2 from this Memphis born and bred singer-songwriter and saxophonist. A great Friday tune out today on Secretly Canadian Records.
10. "Spectre" by Emma-Jean Thackray
Next, the second single from the forthcoming debut album, Yellow (due July 2) from this incredible UK-based singer-songwriter. Great stuff.
11. "New Low" by We Were Sharks
And we close out this first segment of the playlst with the a new single from this Ottawa based five piece pop punk band - who seem to have a lot of fun.  A great song to close us out.
