"Heavy Metal Shed Kids" by Brian Wright & the SneakUps (from Lapse of Luxury - 2020)
Brian Wright and the Sneakups did a residency at The 5 Spot some time before this album came out, so I got to hear a lot of the songs from the album early. This song blew me away (as many of Wright's songs do) the first time I heard it, and it is still a powerful song every time I hear it.
"Doman L'e Festa (Tomorrow is a Holiday)" by Arista Meladri and Chorus (from Songs of Hard Times: Up, Over & Through (1936-1982) - 2020)
The past few years have been hard times for a lot of people, but hard times are nothing new. Last year, this compilation culled from the Lomax collection of recordings was issued containing songs from almost years of songs about hard times. Included was this recording from Italy which was recorded by Alan Lomax in 1954.
"Can't Get Over Her" by Rodney Rice (from Same Shirt, Different Day - 2020)
Next up, we have a track from an album we got a little over a year ago, from this West Virginia (currently - as of the time of release) based in Colorado.
"Southern Sadness" by American Aquarium (from Wolves - 2016)
Next up, we go back to 2016 and this album from the North Carolina band led by BJ Barham.
"One Life Stand" by Mercy Bell (from Golden Child - 2021)
Next up, we have a track from the most recent album by queer country artist Mercy Bell.
"Landscape Fantasy" by Sunbourne Rd. (from Manners Maketh Man - 2021)
Next up, we have some indie rock from Italy from an album released back in June.
"The Firewatch (Gabriel's Song)" by Garrett Wieland (from What Keeps the Heart Afloat - 2021)
And finally, we close with another trcak from June 2021 release by Texas singer-songwriter Garrett Wieland. A great song to take us out for the day.
