A new Friday brings a new Featured Friday Playlist. Please check it out. This is also Bandcamp Friday - so if you discover some new (or old) music on Spotify, it is a good day to see if it is available on Bandcamp and throw some love that way.
This week's playlist features the usual mix of old favorites and new (to us) artists. Plus, a couple of new projects from some old favorites.
If you are in Nashville, it is a good weekend for tributes - Dee's has an epic Gram Parsons tribute tonight, and tomorrow night is the annual Last Waltz benefit at The Beast with many E2TG favorites taking part.
Featured Friday Playlist
"Out of the Ether" by Golden and Rust
First up, we have the lead track from the eponymous debut album by the new project featuring Joey Kneiser (Glossary) and Lew Card - both of whom have been previously featured on E2TG.
"ROMP Theme" by Tramp
I have been a fan of Tramp since his days with Walk the West and The Cactus Brothers in the 80s and early 90s. This is a new instrumental single from him.
"Klara Stjärnor" by Georg Nielsen
Swedish musician, composer, and arranger Georg Nielsen (aka Jon Magnusson) is back with another great instrumental track.
"Thank God They Closed The Honky Tonks" by Mick Mullin
Nashville singer-songwriter Mick Mullin has become a favorite of mine in recent months, and he just recently released his new album Mullin' It Over. This is a track I've gotten to hear him perform live, and a unique spin on the side-effects of the shutdown.
"Blue, Blue, Blue" by Noel McKay
Noel McKay was discovered by Guy Clark in 1993. He divides his time between Austin and Nashville, and since things began to reopen, he has electrified and really united the Nashville songwriting community. This is the title track to his recent album.
"October" by The Tasty Brother (feat. Jon Latham)
The Tasty Brother recording project just released their second single on Bandcamp featuring Irakli Gabriel and Anana Kaye. And they just posted their first single to streaming services - which was this collaboration with Jon Latham. The Tasty Brothers are Cory Nichols and Trey Call.
"Smoke and Mirrors" by Stash
Stash is a new power trio featuring an all-star line-up of L.A. country rock artists - Joey Peters (Cracker, Grant Lee Buffalo) and E2TG favorites Ted Russell Kamp and Rich McCulley. Their debut album Walk the Walk is out now.
"Build Them An Image" by The Chaw
The roots of The Chaw - go back to the beginnings of E2TG and the San Francisco band Stomacher. The Chaw has been dormant for a while, but they are back and this the second single in recent weeks.
"Mercy Me" by Gary Hector
We dig back into Gary Hector's National Trash album with the latest single from that release. Hector is a country music singer-songwriter from the unlikely location of Trinidad and Tobago. His unique sound draws heavily on his love of American music and his unique cultural heritage.
"Wash - La Luz Brillante" by Calexico
We have previewed two earlier singles from the Luz de Vida II compilation to benefit homicide survivors. That album is out and features contributions by Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Dr. Dog, Amos Lee and many more - including this lead track from the long-running Arizona based Tex-Mex band.
