Next up, we have the first taste of the upcoming Blink Once album - the sixth from this Canadian band.

Next up, a single from the Swedish rock/power pop band - which was recorded live to tape in the studio in Stockholm.

Next up, we have the latest single from this Irish pop/rock artist.

Next up, we have the title track from the new album from this Syracuse based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist.

Triple excitement today!  In addition to the continuation of our Featured Friday Playlist recap, we have the return of Music City Monday (after two weeks off), and it is also the start of the WXNA Summer Pledge Drive.

The WXNA Pledge Drive kicks off today - the theme is Alive at 5 - celebrating our fifth year of bring great radio to Nashville and beyond, and we have some awesome summer-theme swag for those who donate.  Go to wxnafm.org 

After forgoing the Music City Monday shuffle  for a week due to a long playlist to recap and then taking last week off for the holiday - it is back - below the jump.  But first, we continue our recap of this week's Featured Friday Playlist. 

Featured Friday Playlist recap (part 2) (songs 11-16):

11. "My Baby" by Ben Reddell Band

First up, we have a track from the brand new album, ¡LA Baby! by the L.A. band led by Texas native Ben Reddell.  Excellent stuff a great way to start this segment of music. 

12. "Honky-Tonk Blackout" by John Paycheck

Next up, we have a track from We All Have A Story - the debut album from the son of country legend Johnny Paycheck. 

13. "Area 52 Truck Stop" by Sylvia Bullett

Next up, we have the title track from the new album by this veteran New York based singer and songwriter.  Her backing band for this album includes Fred Smith and Richard Lloyd of Television. 

14. "Love in a Time of Sharp Decline" by Chris Robley

Next up, we have a powerhouse new single from this singer-songwriter who is currently based in Maine. It is the first taste from the forthcoming albumA Filament In the Wilderness of What Comes Next - which takes a hard look at the current state of the world beginning from a very personal perspective.

15. "Dust" by Andrea Ramolo

Next, we have the first single from the forthcoming Quarantine Dream album by this Canadian singer-songwriter. 

16. "Super Inertia" by 10 000 Russos 

And, we close out this segment of music with an 8 minute - mostly instrumental track from this experimental trio from Portugal. A great way to close us out.

It is finally Friday (for some reason short work weeks always feel so long) - but it is Friday, and that means it is time for another Featured Friday Playlist.  We managed to keep the list rather short again this week, but it is chock-full of great music from all over the place.  As always, we don't have any limits on genre or things like that.

Please consider following our Spotify Playlist so you can enjoy the music every week. 

And, as always, I remind you - if you discover artists you enjoy, find meaningful ways to support them according to your means - buy music and merch, attend shows when you are able, share the artists' music with your friends, follow their pages on social media. You get the idea.  I maintain that Spotify CAN be a good resource to discover new music (although the algorithms can be heavy-handed and lack the subtly of organically discovering music on your own) but it is not a great way to support artists. 

Rant over - I do E2TG because music has been and continues to be important. Enjoy

I was under the weather yesterday, so we have to double-up on the Featured Friday Playlist recap...

Featured Friday Playlist Recap (part 3 & 4) (songs 22-28 and 29-35):

22. "Siege" by Bob Lord

From Playland Arcade, the solo debut of Dreadnaught bassist and co-founder Bob Lord. An interesting collection of music - I dig it.

23. "Animals" by Billycock

Always good to have some punk rock in the Playlist - this is a track from the recent EP by a band from Italy that formed in early 2018.  Cool stuff. 

24. "Dark Pockets" by Dead Slow Hoot

UK dark indie band from their new EP, A Kinder Kind.  

25. "California" by Mermaid Avenue

An Australian indie/country band with a track from their forthcoming Sugartown album - a lovely song. 

26. "Love Found A Way" by John Leslie Hulcombe

Staying in Australia - we have pop/rock/folk singer-songwriter with his latest single. 

27. "Safe from Harm (There's No Need to Be Afraid)" by Ragsy

Next up, a Welsh singer-songwriter who was just added to a playlist by Tom Jones - almost as cool as being added to the E2TG playlist. ;-)  Great track.

28. "Green Wave" by Joel Tyler Wall

Next, we have the title track from the solo debut from 1/2 of the duo Diamond Hands. 

29. "Vagabond Blood" by Mark J. Lee

Next, we have a UK based singer songwriter whose influences include Townes Van Zandt and Kurt Vonnegut. 

30. "When the World Wakes Up" by Tachys

Next, we have the debut single from this Danish duo.

31. "Done/Undone" by Milquetoast and Co.

Next up, we have the new single from this Denver based sextet whose musical style combines widely varied influences in an interesting way. 

32. "Glitter and the Gold" by ZOLA

Next up, a wonderful track from this San Francisco based artist. The lyrics reflect what I think a lot of musical artists go through trying to sell their art which is themselves. 

33. "Lovers In A Dangerous Time" by Soft Riot

Next up, we have a stunning take on Bruce Cockburn's song by this Glasgow-based Canadian synth band. One of two new covers of songs by Canadian artists. 

34. "Take Me Home" by WOLFF & Co.

Next up, we have a new single from this relatively new country-rock band that formed in Nashville. 

35. "Idéal Doki-Doki - 理想的ドキドキ" by MOODOÏD (feat. Miho Hatori)

And we end with a collaboration between a French artist and a Japanese singer-songwriter.  A really stunning a song, and a great way to close us out for the week.

According to my phone it is now 62 days until Labor Day.  To my way of thinking, we are heading into the heart of the summer.  Summer unofficially begins with Memorial Day and unofficially ends with Labor Day.  The technical boundaries are the summer solstice to the autumnal equinox - I guess. Either way, to my mind, once we get past Independence Day in the US, we have entered the heart of the summer, and Labor Day marks the end of that period.  For sure - especially lately - the hot weather can and often does linger long past that date, but after that - there is, at least, the possibility of some reprieves. 

I don't really have a point to all this - except we are now officially half way through this year of change and transition. There was at least a inkling of an idea that somehow, magically, all of the bad of 2020 would just fly away on January 1 and we could look back.  We were quickly dissuaded from such ideas. Even now, as things seems to be returning to normal (or at least a facsimile of normal), one cannot help but wonder what the future holds....

17. "Wait" by Aaron J Trumm

New Mexico based singer-songwriter and label owner Aaron J Trumm with his "obligatory" COVID single. A great message and a great song. 

18. "Heidio Mae'r Locustiaid" by BOI

Welsh band BOI with a track from their new album Coron O Chwinc.  

19. "Hot Sweaty South" by Tenth Mountain Division

This was my introduction to Denver based Tenth Mountain Division and their brand new Butte La Rose album which was produced by Railroad Earth's Tim Carbone, and I am a fan.

20. "Good Day Sunshine" by Kate Taylor

James Taylor's "kid sister" reunites with legendary producer Peter Asher 50 years after her debut album for this stunning Beatles cover. 

21. "A Little More" by Jennifer Tefft

And we close this segment of music with our second single for feature from Boston-area singer-songwriter Jennifer Tefft. A great tune to take us out for this part of the Playlist.

We head into the holiday weekend with a brand new Featured Friday Playlist.  This week's list is considerably shorter than last week (just over half as long) but it is jam packed with great music from old friends and favorites and new favorites (and hopefully some new friends). As always, if you are so inclined, you can follow the Featured Friday Playlist on Spotify.

The usual disclaimers apply:  1. Support the artists you love financially to the extent you are able. 2. Our list should not be considered a ranking of any kind. There is always a combination of intention and randomness in how the songs are ordered on our playlist.

We are now officially half way through 2021....  what is this year? A transitional year, a calm before more storms - it is hard to say for sure... But, we are just moving forward in courage and in fear. 

The world can be a harsh, hard, brutal, and cold place. Driving - to me -  brings out the worst in people (including myself sometimes) pettiness, cruelty, impatience, anger, fear.... 

The pandemic also seemed to bring out the worst - selfishness especially. 

But, and it is a big "but", goodness and kindness are out there. To the extent possible - surround yourself with kind people.  

As divided as we are - I think it is possible to co-exist in this country and on this planet.  Too often, though, the portrayal is that "the other side" is by nature cruel or selfish or unkind. But taken to a more refined level - there are people who believe differently than I do who I know to be good and kind people.  We may disagree vehemently on things that are very important to each of us - but these are not fundamentally cruel or heartless people.  So, maybe don't let a social media persona define a person and don't let the bad behavior color your opinion of someone who shares a similar opinion as the bad actor. 

It is - I think okay to see and recognize trends in public opinion. But, I see danger in personifying a group of people and then assigning people to that group and by default judging an individual on the behavior of the group.  (i.e. "woke" Twitter or conservatives or liberals). 

Just my thoughts as we head into the second half of this strange new year...

We finish up this twenty minute plus instrumental that ended yesterday's post - an international collaboration from France and San Pedro, California. Featuring Mike Watt & the Secondmen

From the just released Banned album by this experimental band from Montreal, Canada.

55. "Longest Day of the Year" by Paul Cafcae

Singer-songwriter Paul Cafcae returns to the Playlist with his latest single. Great stuff.

56. "The Grape Prophet Speaks" by L.S. Underground

Next up, we have a track from the just reissued The Grape Prophet album which had been out of print for nearly 30 years. 

57. "Chelsea Is a Mermaid and She's Soaking In" by Light by the Sea

Next up, the third and most recent single from this Dutch duo that formed during the quarantine. Great stuff. 

58. "Play" by Brent Seavers

Next up, we have a track from the solo debut from Brent Seavers of the Sacremento band The Decibels. This solo project came about when Covid derailed plans for a new album from the band. 

59 .New Era" by Ender Bender

And, we close this penultimate segment of the playlist recap with the title track from the sophomore EP by this indie-pop artist who is based in Rome after years spend in L.A. Yet another example of COVID spurring creativity. A great tune to take us into our final segment of music for this week's playlist which you can catch after the jump.
