Wild Wednesday Morning Shuffle - Life's on that Phone Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

In this day and age, I am always happy when things in the news inspire me and give me hope. That is happening today, and just for this moment, I am pleased.

Remembering Stephen Hawking who is now up in the stars.

In case you missed it:  #E2TG premiered a new song by Lottie this morning.  Check out "Pretending" HERE

Meanwhile, the week reaches its mid-point, and that means it is time for Wild Wednesday Shuffle... reminder, this is where we shuffle all the songs in my phone memory and see what transpires...

"Thorns" by Cee Lo Green

We start things off with some soulful music from the 2015 album Heart Blanche by Cee Lo.
"The Toe Jam" by Minutemen

Next up we have a track from Minutemen which I got from the Post Mersh Vol. 2 CD. It was originally included on Buzz or Howl Under the Influence of Heat. The track features Dick Vandenberg on drums, while regular drummer George Hurley tried to play a trumpet that belonged to musician Crane, Crane - meanwhile - scats on the track, and a band friend named Mary Cooper reads a poem about wanting to wear a weeding ring on her toe. All this in 40 seconds.

"Is It Really Love at All?" by Eric Andersen

Next up, we have another track from that forthcoming Eric Andersen collection. The Essential Eric Andersen will be out March 30, and Andersen will begin a national tour on April 6. All this in celebration of the singer-songwriter's 75th Birthday which he celebrated on Valentine's Day.  This song was the opening track from Andersen's 1972 album Blue River which was recorded in Nashville and produced by Norbert Putnam.

"Promised Land" by Jelena Ciric

Next up, we have a track from the 2015 EP Places - by Serbian/Canadian singer-songwriter Jelena Ciric. She is from Toronto, and I am pretty sure I connected to her music through Valued Customer. In any case, this is really wonderful music, and I'm glad this came up to remind me.  By the way, speaking of V.C. - Ciric provides guest vocals on Pat Power's recent Ontario Gothic Vol. 1 release. Listen below:

"Ramrod" by Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band

Next up, we have a live recording of this song from The River. It is from a January 19, 2016 concert in Chicago - released by the band.

"Modern Life" by Mothers

Near as I can tell, this song is not available anywhere anymore, which I think is a shame because I like it a lot. Mothers are now Ex-Mothers, and they are a Brooklyn band that we came to know through the Mama Coco Funky Kitchen collective. This is from an album called Panamanian Times - which I could no longer find on-line. I have included in the video playlist - a song by Ex-Mothers.

"Pounds of Pressure" by Mr. Lif

Next up, we have some Boston hip hop from the 2016 album Don't Look Down. This is the opening track from that album, and it came to be via an annual mix CD from a hometown friend who lives in Boston now.

"Need Yer Love" by Low Society

We close things out with a track from our Memphis friends Low Society.  We are currently featuring their latest album, Sanctified, but this track comes from their previous release, "You Can't Keep a Good Woman Down". Some powerhouse blues to close out the shuffle.
