Trending Tuesday Morning Shuffle - U Can Do Anything Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Welcome to early spring in Nashville. Yesterday, we had warm temperatures and the threat of severe weather. Tonight, sub-freezing temperatures and a threat of light snow.

Anyway, the news of the day is depressing, the weather is a bit dreary, so how 'bout we just dive in to some music... Music helps.  It always helps....

"Ain't Nobody Love You Like Me" by Big Shoes

A week from tomorrow, Big Shoes will celebrate the release of their album Step On It! with a show at 3rd and Lindsley.  We have been featuring tracks of that album for several weeks. Here's another. Big Shoes is made up of studio/touring musicians who have backed some of the biggest names in music.

"Windchill" by Amilia K. Spicer

With cold weather approaching, an appropriately chilly track from Wow and Flutter by California singer-songwriter Amilia K. Spicer.  Spicer made her Kerrville Folk Festival debut on the main stage - a rare feat. she has made appearances at Kennedy Center and had songs in well-known television productions. I have been digging this album.

"Beat Black and Blue Collar Blues" by Benjamin Jason Douglas

First World Blues is one of my most anticipated albums of 2018.  Benjamin Jason Douglas is an extraordinary songwriter. He has a unique and effective way with words.  This is the first of two tracks from his forthcoming album.

"From the Plane" by Kristin Hersh

We just a few more tracks to get through from Kristin Hersh's double album Wyatt at the Coyote Palace. The album was released in 2016 - it was released on vinyl in 2017 by Happy Happy Birthday to Me Records. We have been featuring the album for just under a year. Hersh was a founding member of Throwing Muses and later a member of 50FootWave.

"Hard Times" by The Cravens

West Palm Beach, Florida band The Cravens return to the shuffle with another track from their latest album On the Line. Three members of the band John and Bill Storch and Ron Desaram have been in bands together since the very early 80s. I have really been enjoying their latest music.

"Waitin On Jack (Reprise)" by Mark Currey

Tarrant County is the third most populous county in Texas and the sixteenth largest in the United States. Fort Worth is the county seat of Tarrant County.  It is also the home county of Arkansas singer-songwriter Mark Currey. Not coincidentally (I wouldn't think), it is also the name of his most recent album.  This is the final track on that album - a brief reprise of an earlier song.

"What Goes Around" by Moonshine Booze

Next up, a rocking track from Desert Road by this colorful band from Terano, Italy. Billed as Outlaw Country Rock Blues, and I am not going to argue with that billing. One of the most satisfying discoveries of the year.

"The Rain" by Rayvon Pettis

Another track from the outstanding Dying Light album. This song prominently features Pettis' long-time collaborator Anna Joy Harris on fiddle and vocals.

"Walking' Down the Grain" by Benjamin Jason Douglas

Our second track of the day from Benjamin Douglas. The video playlist features acoustic performances of the two songs in the shuffle today.  Stay tuned to E2TG for further details on when you can get your own copy of First World Blues.

"U Can Do Anything (Trump's Blues)" by Will Kimbrough

Our final track in today's shuffle comes by way of the Strange Freedom: Songs of Love and Protest album, and it features Will Kimbrough whose music I have followed for close to 30 years. Kimbrough has collaborated with far more musicians and songwriters than I would dare try to county let alone name. Artists like Emmylou Harris and Jimmy Buffet have relied on his talents and a musician and songwriter.  This track may be his most unusual collaboration to date. The words (which garnered this track an explicit content warning) come by way of... well, you will get the picture. Not for the faint of heart, but hell, these days life is not for the faint of heart.
