I'm a bit pushed for time... I was going to stay in last night, but after I got some things done for the Fall E2TG Residency, I decided to venture out to $2 Tuesday.
Joseph Bradshaw opened the show. He is a young Nashville based singer-songwriter, and I was very impressed with his songs.
Ohio based The Vindys were next making their Nashville debut. Really good soulful music.
Ben Stalets, also from Ohio, was next. Very entertaining and amusing performance - a great songs.
As always Derek Hoke brought it, backed by his regular rhythm section (Mark Robertson and Steve Latanation) and joined last night by Thayer Serrano on keyboard.
Hoke and Serrano were also part of the last act - called Magenta. It was a thirty minute improv psyche jam that also featured Steven Cooper and Michael Zimmerman among others. A great ending to the night.
Today, Darrin Bradbury announced the release date for his first album on ANTI- Records - it is September 20. He also released the title track - called Talking Dogs and Atom Bombs. I am so excited for Darrin and for the people who will experience his unique vision and voice. Of course, since you read E2TG, you have been in the know for years now.
Onward! We have a Wild Wednesday shuffle that features some new music and some not new music. Let's go!
"The Morning Paper" by Jimmy and the Revolvers
Jimmy and the Revolvers are a Liverpool based band. This was a single they released in 2015. It somehow floated around in my phones memory since then, which is a shame because it is a wonderful song."Long Time Dead" by Def Robot
Next up, we have our second listen to the debut album by UK band Def Robot - called Makers of Mountains. I am digging this album a lot. Check it out.
"Highway Prayer" by Adam Carroll and Michael O'Connor
Next up, we have another track from the 2009 collaboration between Adam Carroll and Michael O'Connor - called Hard Times. A lovely prayer for those who travel our nations highways making their way."Mary Jane" by The Vulgar Boatmen
The Vulgar Boatmen formed in Gainesville, Florida by students at the University of Florida. The original line-up included Walter Salas-Humara - who produced this album. The band later included Dale Lawrence of Indiana - who was part of the band The Gizmos (Nashville's own Tim Carroll was part of The Gizmos as well). This is from the band's 1989 album.
"Rumble On Arab St. (Kitsch Kub Remix)" by Rude Audio
We have what I believe to be the first listen to Street Light Interference - the new album from the South London collective that combines electronic music and live instruments to create a very exciting brand of music. We previously featured their Rudest EP.
"Tender" by Silver Lake 66
Portland, Oregon based Silver Lake 66 are up next with another fantastic track from their album Ragged Heart. I have been blown away by this album. Great songs.
"Saturdays" by Tom Schreck
Tom Schreck calls himself the Nashville Outsider. This is a track from his first Nashville record - called Outsider. Schreck is one of my favorite local songwriters. He was one of the first Nashville songwriters that Darrin Bradbury encouraged me to check out. I'm glad I did."Ain't That Lovin' You Baby" by Red's Blues
Next up, some blues from Sacramento, California. We featured Red's Blues album You Knock Me Out - last year, and it is great to hear this come up again in the shuffle.
"Evening Prayer" by Jens Lekman and LouLou Lamotte
Next up we have a track from Jens Lenkman's 2017 album Life Will See You Now. Lekman is a Swedish indie pop artist - this track features fellow Swede LouLout Lamotte. This was from a mix CD put together from a friend at the end of 2017.
"Pretty Little Lights of Town" by Charlie Roth
Next up, we have another track from I'm the Smile - from Minnesota based singer-songwriter Charlie Roth. I am loving this album quite a bit.
"Shame" by Flesh Eating Foundation
And we close with a track from heavy electronic/industrial UK band Flesh Eating Foundation. This is from their We Are Fucked album which we featured heavily last year.
