A night at The 5 Spot - Anna Lindsay Sellers hosted a night - she played some of her lovely songs solo acoustic, followed by a great set from The Truehearts (they will be playing the E2TG Residency - back at The 5 Spot on October 9!), next was an acoustic set (sand drummer) from The Big Dumb - they will be playing (a more plugged-in set) during the 5th week on the E2TG Residency (which I am announcing now) on October 23 along with another local band which is still being confirmed!
The late featured The Lucky Dogs - led by Mike Cullison - and they were then joined by a powerhouse guitarist from Italy named Federico Baracchino.
Now - this week is winding down, so we are going to close it out with a Featured Friday shuffle! Let's go!
"You Were Seen" by Neutrals
We start things off with another track from Kebab Disco by Bay Area based punk band Neutrals.
"Porchlight" by Ben Davis Jr.
Next up, we have a first listen to Suthernahia by Ben Davis Jr. - a veteran singer-songwriter from Southern Ohio (Oh, now I get the album title!). This is a beautiful song, and I look forward to hearing and writing about the rest of this album. The album is due out on August 16.
"No Shade in Shadow" by Kristin Hersh
Next up, we our first listen to Possible Dust Clouds by Kristin Hersh. Hersh was a founding member of Throwing Muses (who have recently reunited to play some dates) and later the power trio 50FTWAVE. This is the second release from Hersh that we have covered - the first being her 2016 double album/book called Wyatt at the Coyote Palace.
"Gypsy Moon" by Daniel Seymour and Mark Robinson
I swear - it is all a random shuffle... But today happens to be the birthday of Mark Robinson. He will be celebrating tomorrow night at Dee's with a couple of sets - one with Daniel Seymour and others who made the Chug It Down and Go album from which this track is taken.
"Statue of Liberty" + "Wonderland" by TC and I
Next up, we have two tracks in a row from the new live album from Terry Chambers (TC) and Colin Moulding (I). First up is a quirky track originally recorded and released by XTC (Chamber and Moulding's old band) from their 1978 debut album, White Music. The second song is also an old XTC song - this one originally from Mummer (1983).
"Far Away" by Bryan Haraway
Next up, we have another track from Los Vegas based singer-songwriter Bryan Haraway. We have been featuring this album for awhile. The Record Release show is scheduled for July 30 in Los Vegas. I was introduced to Haraway at this Spring's Magnolia Roads American Roots Hoedown IV, and I have been a fan ever since.
"A Guilty Man" by Rod Picott
This is release day for Rod Picott's incredible new album Tell the Truth and Shame the Devil. Easily this is one of my favorite albums of the year, and I am so glad it is out in the world today.
"Blue Light" by Ben Arthur
We close things out with another track from the forthcoming new album from New York singer-songwriter and podcaster Ben Arthur. The album is called Perspective. Ben will help to kick off the Fall E2TG Residency at The 5 Spot on September 25 - along with Conrad y Skordalia. This will be a very rare Nashville performance for Arthur, and you will not want to miss it.
