Featured Friday Morning Shuffle - If We Try Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Back at it for one last day.  Contemplating the Revolutionary War era airports and whether or not it is appropriate to celebrate a democracy that seems to be on the verge of becoming a dictatorship.

Looking forward to some cool music tonight.  A couple of Kerrville New Folk Award winners Justin Farren and Aaron Smith will be a Tennessee Brew Works early and then Jeremy Ivey, Darrin Bradbury, and Matthew Paige will be at The Basement later.

Then, on to the weekend!

First, I have a big announcement!   E2TG will be celebrating our 8th Anniversary at The 5 Spot in East Nashville over four consecutive Wednesdays starting September 25 - October 16, 2019.  Go ahead a mark you calendars.  Full schedules, graphics, and Facebook Events are coming but for now, I can tell you that our special guests will include:

Ben Arthur (from New York)
Conrad y Skordalia
Jason Erie
Don Gallardo
Josh Gray
Meghan Hayes
Ryan Sobb
and
The Truehearts

You will not want to miss any of these shows!

Now, it's time for our Featured Friday Shuffle!  Dig it!

"Open Up Your Heart" by Rich Mahan

We start things off with Rich Mahan and a track from his Hot Chicken Wisdom album.  Almost as I type this, Mahan is appearing at Finally Fridays at Third and Lindsley and airing on WMOT.

"What Nature Gives... Nature Takes Away" by The Membranes

Next up, we have the title track to the latest album by post-punk legends The Membranes. Digging their sound on this new album.

"Rolling" by Ummagma

Next up, we have the first of two tracks from the forthcoming album Compass (July 26) from Ukrainian/Canadian indie pop/electronic rock duo Ummagma. Really digging this album.

"I'm Over Thinking About You" by Will Payne Harrison

Next up, we have our second listen to Living With Ghosts from Nashville's own Will Payne Harrison.  If you didn't get in on his pre-sale, you will have to wait until September to hear the album, but he will be releasing the first single next Friday. I am loving this album, and it will be worth the wait.

"Vivian Relf" by Ben Arthur

So excited to have Ben Arthur be a part of the Fall E2TG Residency - I have been writing about Ben Arthur since 2014.  This is another track from his forthcoming Perspective album. The album will not be out until later this year, but the first single Lake Success is out now. The track today is based upon a short story by one of my favorite writers Jonanthan Lethem  (which sounds like 2015 E2TG Artist of the Year Jon Latham but who is a different person).  From what I can tell was written with Cindy Lee Berryhill - which is a good time to tell you about Ben Arthur's new podcast (two episodes have been posted) called Songwriter - which features Arthur and another songwriter writing songs that respond to works of writers like Jonathn Lethem.  Catch it on your usual Podcast sites.

"Angel in God's Country" by Chris and Adam Carroll

Last year, Adam Carroll ran a successful crowdfunding campaign in support of not one but two new albums for 2019.  We have already been featuring the first album I Walked in Them Shoes, and now, we have our first listen to the second - a collaboration with his wife Chris Caroll called Good Farmer. Good Farmer is due out August 2.  You have already read my raves for Adam Carroll as a songwriter.  Chris is also an amazing singer-songwriter, and as one might expect they have great chemistry.

"Cretu" by Ummagma

Next up, we have our second listen to Compass from Ummagma.  Really loving this album.

"If We Try" by Tommy Jones and the Troubadours

Next up, another great track from Tommy Jones and the Troubadours from The Truth Will Out.  This is a great song. This is a direct submission from the artist which I am glad didn't slip by me.

"As Good As You" by Reckless Johnny Wales

We close with some sweet talking from our old friend Reckless Johnny Wales from his End It With a Love Song. The album features Reckless Johnny and his Trans Genre Orchestra. These are not "Silly Love Songs" as Mr. McCartney would say -  Reckless is not sappy but they will occasionally bring a smile to your face (when the aren't bringing a tear to your eye).
