Wild Wednesday Morning Shuffle - It's Too Late Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Here is an semi-official preview poster of the E2TG 8th Anniversary residency coming up in the Fall. I am excited about this line-up, and there is a slight chance I may have an additional announcement coming soon - or not.  Who knows?

Meanwhile, we reached the mid-point of the week. Some time back, I came up with the name "Wild Wednesday" for this day when we don't shuffle from the "New Music/Trending Music" playlist but rather - we shuffle from all of the songs saved to my phone memory.  The "Wild" refers to the fact that the songs in this shuffle can be anything (currently featured music, past featured music, all-time favorites, oddities that somehow got saved to my phone at some point in the past for reasons last to time, "classics" from the earliest days of E2TG and more (if that didn't over everything).

Let's go!

"New Wave" by De Surfures

A few/several years back, I attended a local surf/instrumental rock show here in Nashville.  I left with some music - including a compilation of surf songs from all over the world. I am pretty sure, this track is from that compilation.  De Surfures  are from Castro del Rio, Spain.  In case you are wondering, I checked and Castro del Rio is not located particularly close to the ocean.  Hey Sue! Is this "New Wave" or "Surf"?

"Hurtling Moons of Barsoom" by Red Asphalt

Some time back, I came to possess a compilation of early post-punk and new wave bands called Thirteen O'Clock Volume 1.  This is a track from that compilation by Red Asphalt who were a relatively short-lived San Francisco band that existed from 1978 to 1982.  Barsoom is a fictional representation of the planet Mars - which was created by Edgar Rice Burroughs (the creator of Tarzan).  I said it was wild Wednesday!

"Sleepy Town" by Adam Carroll and Michael O'Connor

Keep your arms and legs inside the shuffle until we have come to a complete stop - from the heavy, early post-punk sounds of Red Asphalt, we switch things up to Adam Carroll and Michael O'Connor from their 2010 album Hard Times.  This is (I believe) a Michael O'Connor penned song. We've written extensively about Adam Carroll (including the two albums currently in our "Trending" playlist. Michael O'Connor is originally from Corpus Christi, Texas and currently based in Denver, Colorado.  A great song.

"Terminal" by Tomorrow's Eve

Next up, we throw in some German progressive metal because why not!  We featured Tomorrow's Eve and their album Mirror Of Creation III – Project Ikaros  last year.

"Hanging By a Thread" by Tony Logue

Next up, a really wonderful song - and I believe the only song in the shuffle from our current Trending playlist. Tony Logue is a singer-songwriter from west Kentucky who hit me up a couple of weeks back with his brand new album Live on Red Barn Radio.  More to come from this album.

"Don't Let Rock N' Roll Ruin Your Life" by Vulture Kult

Next up, we have one from the E2TG archives.  Vulture Kult were a featured band back in 2012 (our second year of existence). They are a hard rock band from Saskatoon. This was the title track from the album we featured back then. Don't see them on Facebook anymore so I don't know what became of them.

"It's Too Late" by China Crisis

We have recently been featuring music from Gary Daly of China Crisis - this is the band with their take on the Carole King classic.  It is from a compilation of 80s bands doing 80s style renditions of classic tunes.

"Calling" by JNY HZD

Okay - so I was mistaken.  We have a second track from our featured. JNY HZD is Johnny Hazard - a guitarist from northern England and this is a single he released back in May. Cool stuff.

"What You Need" by INXS

Next up, we come up with a song from Australian band INXS from their 1985 Listen Like Thieves album.

"Pink Moon" by Lamya

Lamya was one of the singers in the band Soul II Soul and later sang with Duran Duran. This is her cover of the Nick Drake classic from her debut album Learning from Falling which came out in 2002.

"I Think She Likes Me" by Treat Her Right

We close with one of my all-time favorite bands. Boston's Treat Her Right featured the late Mark Sandman before he was in Morphine.  They released three albums during their initial run. A compilation album was later released and in 2009 an album of lost recordings was released. Surviving members of the band reformed the band in 2009.
