We are back. I was a little under the weather yesterday, so no Music City Monday shuffle...
Today, we dig back into the Trending/New Music playlist.
It's a good one, so let's dig right in...
"HighLow" by Will Payne Harrison
We continue to explore Living With Ghosts - the forthcoming new album from Will Payne Harrison. The album is set for release September 6, but he is having a CD release show as part of $2 Tuesday on August 13. It is a wonderful album. A great tune to start my morning commute.
"59 Stratocaster" by Bruce Smith
Next up, we have Austin, Texas singer-songwriter Bruce Smith's tribute to Buddy Holly - which earned high praise from both the widow of Buddy Holly and from the Buddy Holly Center. This is taken from Smith's album Til the Wheels Fall Off.
"Less of a Woman" by Ariana Gillis
Next up, we have another track from the Buddy Miller produced The Maze - the new album from Ontario based singer-songwriter Ariana Gillis. Buddy Miller saw Gillis performing at City Winery here in Nashville and go on board to produce her next album. I am digging this album."Into the Sunset" by Leroy From the North
Next up, we have our first listen to Health and Fitness - the new 5-song EP from California (by way of Detroit) band Leroy from the North. The band's sound combines some great contemporary indie sounds with a healthy bit of Americana/country. Think of it has modern California country. Great stuff.
"Da Mayor is On the Scene" by RJ Chesney
If you didn't know, Los Angeles is quite the hot spot for modern roots music, and we have another example up next. We have been covering Amateur Revolution from some time. Chesney has roots in the American south and the album also has a bit of Nordic magic (via Norway) (the Nordic countries are also hotbeds of modern roots music). This track references is "kinder/gentler" New York City.
"Is There Time" by RJ Cowdery
I have to admit, right at first, I kept getting RJ Chesney and RJ Cowdery mixed up - I mean they are both named RJ, and I got both album within a relatively short time span. But really, the similarities end right there (except that both albums are among my favorites of the year). Ohio based singer-songwriter RJ Cowdery's new album is called What If This Is All There Is - it was produced by East Nashville's own Amy Speace. The album is filled with lovely songs. This is one of those.
"Six Days Til Sunday" by Renee Wahl and the Sworn Secrets
Next up, we have another great track from Cut to the Bone by E2TG favorites Renee Wahl and the Sworn Secrets. A song about trying to make it through until Sunday for another shot of faith and realizing that it is only Monday.
"Jimmy Brown" by Ted Drozdowski; Coyote Motel
As we await the forthcoming new "acoustic" album from Ted Drozdowski's Coyote Motel (the release show is scheduled for August 10th at The 5 Spot (with a light show and dancers and guests) - we go back to the rocking debut from this new project. Psychedelic tinged rock and roll. From what I have heard, the "acoustic" album still rocks pretty hard. It is all relative. Happy Anniversary to Ted and Laurie!
"Arjuna The Believer" by Grant Farm
This may be my favorite track from Broke in Two by Colorado band Grant Farm. This is killer roots music - it's a wonderful album - this song just hit the perfect spot this morning.
"In the Presence of the River" by Eric Brace, Peter Cooper, and Thomm Jutz
We close with a song - epic in scope - from the wonderful Riverland album from the powerhouse trio of Eric Brace, Peter Cooper, and Thomm Jutz. Celebrating the greats who hail from the Mississippi River area.
