Music City Monday Morning Shuffle - Om Airwaves Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

And, we are back!  It's another Monday and time for another Music City Monday shuffle - celebrating the music of Nashville and the people who have and do make it.

"Then Come the Blues Again" by Tim Carroll

We start things off with the one and only Tim Carroll.  I often tell people (and it is worth repeating), if you are in Nashville on a Friday night, and you only have time to do one thing, that thing should be attending Tim Carroll Rock and Roll Happy Hour at The 5 Spot from 6-8:30pm.  It is two and a half hours of original rock and roll music in an authentic East Nashville locale. Tim Carroll is a prolific songwriter and one of our best.  This one goes back to his Look Out! album from a few years back.

"OM" by Ron Gallo

A brief, humorous track from Ron Gallo from Stardust Birthday Party which came out in October 2018.

"Pocketful of Jack" by Davis Raines

Another week, another Davis Raines track from Going to Montgomery. One of Nashville's finest.

"Incarcerated" by Todd Snider

Coincidentally, the second song in a row about trouble with the law... From Todd Snider's classic album East Nashville Skyline.  Is it overstatement to say that East Nashville would be the East Nashville we know if it wasn't for Todd Snider and this album? Maybe, but when have I ever let that stop me.

"Right Kind of Woman" by Derek Hoke

If you end up in Nashville and it is Tuesday and not Friday, I still recommend you head to The 5 Spot.  8ish to wheneverish - Derek Hoke has been hosting $2 Tuesdays for a long time. It is really hard to beat.  $2 cover, $2 Yazoo beer, and great music. Derek always plays with some combination of his powerhouse band. Plus, he books local and regional acts that never fail to impress me.  Honestly, if you just catch Derek's set it is worth you time and money - plus a tip.  This is from his latest album Bring the Flood.

"I Guess I Moved On" by Taylor Alexander

Next up, we have another track from the debut solo album by long time E2TG favorite Taylor Alexander - Good Old Fashioned Pain. This is pure country music, and pure great songwriting.

"Nothing" by Sad Baxter

Next up, we have - what I believe - is the latest single by Nashville band Sad Baxter. I first saw this band backing Bill Eberle (several years back), and then more recently, I saw them at Betty's playing on a bill with some friends from New York.  Dig their sound.

"Head Hung Low" by Carl Anderson

Nashville by way of Charlottesville, VA singer-songwriter Carl Anderson recently released his latest EP - You Can Call Me Carl. A great sounding record.  Check it out!

"Airwaves" by Andrew Leahey and the Homestead

Andrew Leahey's ode to FM radio is up next - it is the title track from his latest album with his band, The Homestead. Leahey - in addition to being a fantastic singer-songwriter is also a fantastic guitarist and a world-class journalist.  He also has the best hair in rock and roll. "Deep Creep" by Justin and the Cosmics

Next up, we have another track from PERF by one of my favorite local bands.  Justin Collins leaves it all on stage when he performs. Justin and the Cosmics shows are always high energy parties.

"Ten People" by Julie Christensen and Stone Cupid

We close with some social commentary from Julie Christensen from Weeds Like Us - her last pre-Nashville release. For new readers who don't know. Julie Christensen was a member of Divine Horsemen (the influential L.A. roots/punk band) and she toured with Leonard Cohen for many years.  Most recently, she recorded and toured with The Flesheaters (featuring her ex-husband - and Divine Horsemen bandmate- Chris D., plus John Doe, Dave Alvin, DJ Bonebrake, and Steve Berlin).
