Trending Thursday Morning Shuffle - Melancholia Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Moving right along.  It is Thursday and time to get back into our Trending playlist.  We have several first listens today - plus we return to some of our recent favorites.  Let's go!

"Spaced Out" (Clean) by ihatezacky

First up, we have a first listen to a track from the forthcoming release (April 26) IN.CASE.I.DON'T.WAKE.UP  by Zachariah Storm AKA ihatezacky.  He is the lead singer of the grunge/hardcore band The Flesh Velvet. This is his debut solo release. With songwriting that comes from struggles with depression, addiction, and self-harm as well as being fueled by a  developing an interest in alternative fashion and culture while living in a small town (in this case Old Colwym in Wales). Happy to have this intriguing new music in the shuffle.

"Drive Like Your Kids Live Here/Tobacco Die" by Batkhi Dahn

Hogwash is the latest album by Connecticut experimental group Batkhi Dahn - which the main creative outlet (music-wise) for Hayden Nork - who we have followed since his days in The Foresters.  By the way, taken as a whole, The Foresters, Batkhi Dahn, and Discount Ravioli have more mentions on E2TG than any other artist or combination. And that doesn't even take into account 100% Beefcake or any of the other Dord Music Group related artists.

"Death Letter" by Bert Deivert and Copperhead Run

Continuing to dig Blood in My Eyes for You by blues mandolin master Bert Deivert and his band Copperhead Run.  This is actually a 2015 album, but it's new to me.  The musicians in Copperhead Run have a long history together and it shows. The music is blues, jazz, folk, and roots music at its absolute best.

"The Dumb" by Dragon Welding

Next up, we have another first listen. This time we have the self-titled debut release by Dragon Welding which is due out a week from tomorrow. Dragon Welding is a solo project of The Wolfhounds' Andrew Golding (the band name is an anagram of his name).  Really, great sounding music - I can't wait to hear and write about more of this fine album.

"Building a Future" by Benny Bassett

Next up, we have a first listen to Words for Yesterday the forthcoming EP by Benny Bassett - which came to me via a direct inquiry.  Bassett was a Chicago lawyer who gave up that life for a life on the road creating music. Some 3 years, 450+ shows, and 200,000 driving miles later - he is set to release Words for Yesterday on April 12.  Bassett has an busy tour schedule to support the release (or is it vice-versa these days) which started on the West Coast and which will take him around the world through August. Our first listen is a pop oriented song that I love. Looking forward to writing more about this music.

"4th of July" by Steve Poltz

Next up, we have another track from Shine On by the inimitable Steve Poltz. This poignant song is wonderful.  Steve Poltz and producer Will Kimbrough his a match made in music heaven.

"Melancholia Mania" by SPC ECO

Next up, we have another first listen. This time it is Fifteen - the new album from SPC ECO which features Dean Garcia of Curve and his daughter Rose Berlin. The two formed SPC ECO in 2008 following the 2005 demise of Curve. Really digging this music which was released in February.

"Night At the Show" by Adam Carroll

I am so thrilled to be able to get a preview of I Walked in Them Shoes which is due out on April 12.  Adam Carroll is one of the best and most respected songwriters working today.  He has already been the subject of a tribute album. As you may recall, Carroll complete a successful crowdfunding campaign to release two albums in 2019. This is the first - the second is a collaboration with his wife Chris.  This was truly my first listen, and it has all the hallmarks of a great Adam Carroll record - incredible songwriting and rich and resonate vocals.

"In a Room" by Christopher Sky

We close things out with some lovely experimental music from Vastness by Christopher Sky - a great way to close things out.
