Well, the 2019 Edition of the Magnolia Roads American Roots Hoedown IV is in the books. Over two nights, 13 acts featuring at least 54 artists performed. There was also a silent auctions which raised money for the Ben Eyestone Fund of Music Health Alliance, a COMMUnity Canvas - collaborative painting, and just a ton of fun.
Thank you to Emily Hansen of Magnolia Roads for letting me be a part of this. I got to see old friends like The Truehearts, Chris Wilson, Don Gallardo, Mike Younger, Rich Mahan, and Lady Couch; people that I saw at previous Magnolia Roads events - like Jenny Lee West, Arkansas Dave, Bonnie Blue, and Jason Daniels; and some new folks like Bryan Haraway, FunkyJenn, and Jeff Mix.
Until next time!
Now, we jump right into another fantastic Music City Monday shuffle! Let's do it!

It's getting real and it's getting really close! The Magnolia Roads American Roots Hoedown IV is just a couple of days away. Make you plans. The 5 Spot in East Nashville is one of my favorite places in town, and it will be a great place to get away from all of madness going on around Nashville this weekend. You will find two nights of original music from 13 great acts, a silent auction, a great cause (The Ben Eyestone Fund of Music Health Alliance), a community canvas project, and much more. It all kicks off at 9:00pm on Friday April 26.
Now, for today's Wild Wednesday Shuffle - I decided to use our "Trending"/new music playlist - just to make some more room in that playlist - because we have so much great music. Plus, I was off work last Friday and I likely won't be doing a regular shuffle this Friday. Still, as I said last week, thanks to the awesome variety of music I have been receiving, our this shuffle is pretty darn "wild".
Let's go!

I'd like to take this opportunity to remind you of the on-going on-line silent auction being conducted in conjunction with the Magnolia Roads American Roots Hoedown IV - coming this weekend. The auction ends Saturday and the winners will be announced just before the final act - Lady Couch - takes the stage. You do not need to be present to win, but if you around Nashville - please consider coming out. All proceeds from the auction are going to the Ben Eyestone Fund of the Music Health Alliance. A vital organization that helps provide lifesaving medical assistance to working musicians.
Elizabeth Cook, Jason Isbell, John Prine, The Grateful Dead, Wilco and more have all donated items which you can bid on now. Just visit the website to see the items and BID.
Now, let's get to the Trending Tuesday shuffle. I added more music to the playlist last night - which meant making some surgical cuts to keep the list at 500 (my self-imposed limit). Anyway, let's get right to the shuffle!

Magnolia Roads American Roots Hoedown IV is almost here! I hope, if you are in Nashville, you will make plans to attend. It is doing to be a truly memorable two nights of music and more. 9:45-10:30 Rich Mahan Band
10:45-11:30 Bonnie Blue
11:45 Silent Auction winners announcement
11:55pm-1:10 Lady Couch
We have a great big Music City Monday shuffle. With all the insanity coming to Nashville this week, with the NFL Draft and the Marathon, it is important to remember that and why Nashville truly is Music City USA. There are those who want to obscure or dilute that fact, and in rebuttal, I offer up - this shuffle!

The Magnolia Roads American Roots Hoedown IV is just around the bend! Make your plans to attend Friday April 26 and Saturday April 27 at The 5 Spot in East Nashville. The fabulous Lady Couch will be closing out the whole she-bang on Saturday! Here is a video of Allen Thompson and Mike Ford of Lady Couch.
Now, we have come to the last Shuffle for this week. I am off work tomorrow for Good Friday.
You know, I may need to rename my Wild Wednesday shuffle - because to be honest our regular shuffles have been pretty wild and pretty awesome. Thanks go out to the artists and publicists who continue to send me great and diverse new (and reissued) (and new to me) music.

In addition to the great music and the silent auction, there is also going to be a Community Canvas project on-going during the Hoedown. For more on the organization behind this - click HERE
If you are more of a visual learner - check out this cool video
As fate would have it, I added some music to the Trending Playlist last night, and the final count of songs came in at exactly 500 (which is the max I set for the playlist).
Anyway, I'm kind of slammed with things - so let's get right to the shuffle.

It is now less than two weeks until the Magnolia Roads American Roots Hoedown IV. As part of this year's hoedown, there is a silent auction - which is going on now. There are several amazing items up for bid, and you do not have to be present at the Hoedown to participate or win.
HERE is the link to the on-line auction. Remember all proceeds go to the Ben Eyestone Fund at the Music Health Alliance. So get bidding!
Now, we head back into the Music City Monday shuffle. It was a good one!

Today, I would like to talk about the fund raising part of the Magnolia Roads American Roots Hoedown IV. As I have mentioned, the show and the silent auction will benefit the Ben Eyestone Fund of the Music Health Alliance. Many of my Nashville readers know about Ben and this fund, but for those reading this who don't know, HERE is a link to some information about the fund.
I feel like this is becoming a pattern, but it has been another rough week, and I am so glad it is Friday. As I mentioned yesterday, I did add a bunch of new music to my playlist, and I did have to make some cuts to get down to 500 songs (which I have arbitrarily set as a limit for this playlist). Those songs removed are still on my phone, so they can show up on a future Wild Wednesday shuffle.
Anyway, let's get to it!

It is just over two weeks until the Magnolia Roads American Roots Hoedown IV (April 26 and 27) at The 5 Spot. I am excited to officially announce that I will be acting as Co-MC for this mini-festival. Great music, beer specials, a silent auction, a community canvas art project, and so much more. This is a don't miss event!
I am working on getting a ton of new music added to my playlist - I may have to move some songs off of "Trending" playlist. That's never an easy decision for me to make.
Anyway, let's dive right into to today's shuffle because time is tight!

Well, first off, I have to say that night 2 of the Brian Wright and the Sneak-Ups Residency at The 5 Spot somehow manged to top the first week. Guest Audley Freed (The Black Crowes, etc.) sat in for a couple of songs - including a killer version of "Cortez the Killer". Brian Wright and his incredible band put on a great rock n roll show. From the exaltation of "Glory Hallelujah" to the emotional gut punch that is "Heavy Metal Shed Kids" - it was one of the best live shows I have experienced in a good while. Brian Wright has been a favorite of mind since I first heard his music. When he plays solo, it can be amazing. Full-band - it is something else entirely. And this new band (Wade Cofer, Jon Latham, Matty Apples, Jimmy Matt Rowlan, Rob Crowell, Sally Jaye, and Kristen Englenz) is just out of this world. They still have two weeks to go, and I can wait to see where they take it from here.
Next, more about the Magnolia Roads American Roots Hoedown IV. As if the music artists we've already mentioned were not enough, the nights will also include a community canvas and more. The silent auction, which I previously mentioned, and which benefits the Ben Eyestone Fund of the Musicians Health Alliance, is going to have many incredible items. The auction will be done all on-line - so even if you can't make it to the shows, you can still participate. I will be posting the links when they are available. One of the items comes from Wilco, an autographed poster book and more...signed poster, signed toy, scarf, bar towel, CD and pin.
Now, let's get to today's shuffle. It is Wednesday, and I think this shuffle lives up to the "Wild" designation. Besides being wild, it is also filled with excellent music (both new and not as new). Let's go!

Fun night at Madison Guild Monday. Lots of great sets: Steve Noonan (who I had seen on Saturday), Milan Miller, Rob McNurlin, Conrad y Skordalia, Maynard and the Musties. Loved Linda McCrae's cover of "Ashes to Ashes" on Banjo (loved all her music but that cover just knocked me out), Luella and Kevin Gordon doing a set of Gospel songs was transcendent. Some good hangs. I'm dragging a bit today, but it was worth it.
As promised, our preview of the Magnolia Roads American Roots Hoedown IV continues. Saturday's line-up is stacked. The music starts early and goes until very late.
Here is the schedule:
6:00-6:20 Jenny Van West
6:25-6:45 Bryan Haraway
6:50-7:10 Jason Daniels
7:15-7:35 Mike Younger
7:45-8:30 Jeff Mix & The Songhearts
8:45-9:30 Arkansas Dave
9:45-10:30 Rich Mahan Band
10:45-11:35 Bonnie Blue
11:50 Silent Auction winners announcement
12midnight-1:15 Lady Couch
Stay tuned for more information on the Silent Auction. There are some very special items that will be up for bid. All proceeds will go to the Ben Eyestone Fund of the Musician's Health Alliance - which provides vital health care services and resources to people in the music industry.
We jump back into our Trending playlist. I have a ton of new music to add and I am trying very hard to keep this playlist under 500 songs, so we either have to feature as many as we can or I will need to start moving some older songs out of the playlist.

A fun night at The 5 Spot for the opening night of Brian Wright and Friends April Residency. A killer band, great songs, and guest Shannon McNally.
Plus, I stuck around for most of $2 Tuesday with great hangs and more great music.
I'm dragging a bit today!
#E2TG Favorite among Favorites Darrin Bradbury just released a new single - his first release since signing to ANTI- Records. It's for his song, "Newark" which is one of my favorite of his newest batch of songs.
Now, it's time for our regularly schedule "Wild Wednesday" shuffle. I love Wednesdays because it is a bit like digging through old boxes - you never know what you will find.

Here we are at the beginning of another month. It is easy to despair in these times. Very easy to despair. I still believe that as Martin Luther King, Jr said, "...the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice." It can be easy to doubt this when your focus is too narrow.
A few years ago, when we were seeing several positive developments (i.e. the affirmation of same sex marriage), I predicted that we would see counter reaction. I'll be honest, I never expected the reaction to be as powerful as it has been, but I still believe it is just a reaction to the overall progress.
This does not lessen the need to continue to fight and resist.
