Featured Friday Morning Shuffle - Summer Wine Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Whew!  It's the end of another week.  I am still struggling with not feeling great, and I ready for the up and down temperatures to give us a break for at least a few days.

Next week, I am going to jump headlong into promoting the Magnolia Roads American Roots Hoedown IV - which will be happening April 26 and 27 at The 5 Spot.  There are all sorts of sponsors, a silent auction, and other cool stuff. The shows are a benefit for the Ben Eyestone Fund at Musician's Health Alliance. The music is jam packed with great bands - including many E2TG Favorites. I am super stoked to a part of this year's "Hoedown".  Make your plans now!

Now, let's get right to the Featured Friday shuffle!

"Glasshouse Girls" by Pilotcan

We start things off with another one from Bats Fly Out From Under the Bridge by the Scottish band Pilotcan.  Still really digging this album which we have been featuring for a few months now.

"Big Green Rambler" by Peter Rogan

Next up, we have another great track from Still Tryin' To Believe the debut album by Pennsylvania based, award winning songwriter Peter Rogan.  As often is the case, there is a Nashville connection: Phil Madiera and Will Kimbrough.  This is a great sounding record, and today's track is a wonderful song.

"Road to Roasario" by Beauty in Chaos (feat. Michael Aston)

Next up, we have another track from that star-studded Beauty in Chaos album Fimding Beauty in Chaos.  This features Michael Ashton (Gene Loves Jezebel).  I really liked this song. Definitely an exciting and interesting addition to my shuffles.
"Plasmodium" by Float Here Forever

Detroit band Float Here Forever returns to the shuffle with another track from their Tour the Ruins album. A great rock sound.

"When the Lights Go Down" by kettleflower

Next we have another lovely track from the new project featuring the artist we first were introduced to as Prattle On, Rick. We have been featuring Patrick Rickleton's music for several years now, and it is always a delight. This new project is no exception.
"Summer Wine" by Bobbo Byrnes

This is not a cover of the Lee Hazlewood song (unless I totally missed something), but it is a wonderful track from Two Sides of The Town. Bobbo runs a studio, is a member of the band The Fallen Stars, and is a side musician. He also releases solo albums, and this is the latest .Great stuff.
"River City" by Eric Brace Peter Cooper Thomm Jutz
We return to the Riverland with this beautiful song from the excellent Riverland album.  Brace, Cooper, and Jutz are Nashville treasures in each of their own rights. When the get together, something magical happens.

"If Your Eyes Are Closed" by The Campfire Flies

The quirks of the shuffle: we have our second listen (after yesterday) to Sparks Like Little Stars from The Campfire Flies. Great to have our old friend Deena back in the shuffle.  A fun fact that I didn't remember until after yesterday's post:  when Deena's solo album Rock River came out - I reviewed that for No Depression.  Deena also has a recent solo single called "The Mueller Report".  For The Campfire Flies she is in great company of some fellow veteran musicians including her long time partner (from The Cucumbers) Jon Fried.
"Funeral Music (clean)" by ihatezacky

Next up, we have the single from Welsh artist ihatezacky who is also the lead singer of the band The Flesh Velvet. The video just dropped and song just dropped two days ago. It is from the forthcoming In.Case.I.Don't.Wake.Up album.  Hardcore, hip-hop, and alternative influences and lyrics that come from a deeply personal and painful place.

"Just Another Thing" by 6 String Drag

Record Store Day is just one day over a week away, and that is when you can try to get your hands on the vinyl reissue of The Jag Sessions by the groundbreaking band 6 String Drag. Only 500 copies are being produced.  This is a wonderful record.

"Old East River Road" by Andy Statman

We close with our first listen to Monroe Bus - the fantastic new album from the genre-blending multi-instrumentalist whose career began in the 1970s.  The title refers to Bluegrass legend Bill Monroe - whose influence in evident on this album - but it is just one influence among many. This particular track features influences from Central Asia and instruments from Turkey and Persia. It is a rich stew, and I am so excited to have this album in my playlist.
