Wild Wednesday Morning Shuffle - The Art of Drifting Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

It's getting real and it's getting really close!  The Magnolia Roads American Roots Hoedown IV is just a couple of days away.  Make you plans.  The 5 Spot in East Nashville is one of my favorite places in town, and it will be a great place to get away from all of madness going on around Nashville this weekend. You will find two nights of original music from 13 great acts, a silent auction, a great cause (The Ben Eyestone Fund of Music Health Alliance), a community canvas project, and much more.   It all kicks off at 9:00pm on Friday April 26.

Now, for today's Wild Wednesday Shuffle - I decided to use our "Trending"/new music playlist - just to make some more room in that playlist - because we have so much great music. Plus, I was off work last Friday and I likely won't be doing a regular shuffle this Friday. Still, as I said last week, thanks to the awesome variety of music I have been receiving, our this shuffle is pretty darn "wild".

Let's go!

"Mary" by The Big Dumb

We start off with one of my favorite songs by E2TG Band of the Year, The Big Dumb from their debut EP, We Get Along Too Well. They are hard at work on their debut full length album.  This is a song written by band member Javi Jones -  I recall first hearing it done solo by him.  Lead vocals here are by Griffin Winton - who I heard sing this (I think) the first time I saw the band (maybe the night they changed mid-set from The Cult of Javi Jones to The Big Dumb)???  It is a great song about teen sex and awkwardness.

"Rag Doll" by Sean McCollough

Next up, we have a first listen to Earworm - the forthcoming new album by Sean McCollough who hosts the radio show Kidstuff on WDVX in Knoxville. McCollough is a music professor at UT Knoxville.  He also attended the same high school as me - a year or so behind.  This song was written by noted Knoxville musician Greg Horne. I don't have a video for this song, but I do have one featuring McCollough and Horne performing for school children.

"Blue Fall Day" by The Campfire Flies

As the band name implies, The Campfire Flies makes gorgeous music that sounds like could be produced around a campfire. Their debut album Sparks Like Little Stars is wonderful. The band is made up of veteran musicians from the New Jersey music community. Including Deena and Jon Fried of The Cucumbers.

"The Art of Letting Go" by Jason Erie

Speaking of New Jersey, we have the title track from the recently released album by New Jersey native and Nashville resident Jason Erie. Erie brings a blue collar approach to his deep and thoughtful songs. This is one of my favorite albums of recent months. Look for Jason Erie opening for Josh Gray at Gray's forthcoming CD Release show in May.

"Life Unplugged" by Tim Cheesebrow

I keep posting on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter about how important it is to unplug. Seriously, we live in an age where unplugging from the social media and technology can seem daunting under-taking.  For musicians, who use social media as a primary means of marketing, it can be even more intimidating. This is a great song from The Well Traveled Unknown by Minneapolis singer-songwriter Tim Cheesebrow.

"Drifting Away" by Beauty in Chaos (feat. Robin Zander)

Next up, we have another track from Finding Beauty in Chaos. This track features Cheap Trick singer and rhythm guitarist Robin Zander.

"Why Does the Room Begin to Sway" by Tim Gartland

Next up, we have another track from Believe by blues harp player, singer-songwriter Tim Gartland. The album was released back on April 12.  Love having a steady supply of great blues music like this in my shuffles. Garland is joined by some blue/roots all-star players for this album.

"Yuma" by Amelia White

We close with another track from Amelia White's amazing Rhythm of the Rain album.  This is her song dedicated to a friend who committed suicide. The song is more of a celebration of life than anything else. One of my favorites to hear White perform live and to hear from this album.
