Wild Wednesday Morning Shuffle - Friends with Benefits Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

I am going to link to yesterday's shuffle which didn't get posted until today as to avoid the social media faux pas of making two posts back to back.

Check out the awesome Trending Tuesday Shuffle.  HERE

Today's Wild Wednesday Shuffle - lives up to the name - as we have songs that span 91 years.

I have to be a little quick so bear with me.

"Love, Dear?" by SuperCrashingStar

We start with a return to the shuffle from E2TG favorites SuperCrashingStar - from their album Digital Low-Fi.  Sverre Wendelbo - the mastermind behind SuperCrashingStar recently moved back to his hometown of Paris, France from New York City.  More recently, he has been in Japan.

"Distant Light" by Holygram

Next up, we have a first listen to German post-punk/whatever band Holygram from their Modern Cults album.  I'm digging this great, kind of heavy music.

"Stealin' Stealin'" by Memphis Jug Band

The oldest song in the shuffle - and likely one of the oldest we've features.  This 1928 recording by the legendary Memphis jug band was released in 1959 by Folkways.  The song became more well-known when the Grateful Dead released their cover of the song as their first single in 1966.  This cut comes from American Epic - the amazing PBS documentary mini-series.

"Ready to Go" by Viva Death

From a 1928 jug band tune to a track by L.A. rock band Viva Death from their Illuminate album.  Viva Death features Scott Shiflett of Face to Face and Me First and the Gimme Gimmes.

"Jennifer" by Tom Schreck

Next up, a favorite song and the last we have to feature from Save the Glory by one of Nashville's best and most literate songwriters Tom Schreck.  Last I heard, Schreck was wrapping up work on a covers album while also finishing up an album of original songs. Definitely an E2TG favorite.
"Drowned and Washed Away" by Eric Brace, Peter Cooper and Thom Jutz

Fulfilling the 91 year span of this shuffle - we have a first listen that I am really excited about. Riverland is due out February 1. It is the latest album by three of Nashville finest musicians and songwriters. Separately and together, the trio of Eric Brace, Peter Cooper, and Thom Jutz represent the best of Nashville. East Nashville would not be East Nashville with the influence and presence of Eric Brace.  As a journalist and songwriter, Peter Cooper has told and been a part of the fabric of Nashville music for many years.  If I am not mistaken (I could be) Thom Jutz is the relative Nashville newcomer.  Together this three amazing individuals equal far more than the considerable sum of their parts.

"You Burned Me" by Suzette Lawrence and The Neon Angels

Next up, we have some rip-roaring honky tonk music from Nashville (via Los Angeles) artist Suzette Lawrence and her band the Neon Angels. Lawrence was a vital part of the L.A. scene that included Rosie Flores and many more.

"Achilles Heel" by FTK Feed The Kid

Next up, we have the a-side to the November 2018 single by Manchester's Feed the Kid.  Really fun music.  We previously featured the b-side of the single.

"In my head (day three three seven)" by Reverse Family

Reverse Family released 52 7 track EPs over the course of a year. This is from a sampler of some of the final batch of songs. - namely the 337th song of that epic project.

"Drop Down Mama" by Bert Deivert and Copperhead Run

And we close with our second listen to Blood in My Eyes for You by one of the foremost blues mandolinists around.  Deivert was born in Boston and is currently based in Sweden.  His music  is in the spirit of country blues musician Yank Rachell - who my friend (and E2TG favorite Mark Robinson played with).  His musical journey has taken him all over the world - including a stint in San Francisco playing with Peter Case.
